BWM M5 and Audi RS6Has anyone driven either? I'm thinking about getting something a little more "interesting" and was considering going for a test drive in either the old shape M5 or an Audi RS6.
Also thinking of a Maserati 3200. Your thoughts please. Too petty to be a traffic warden...
Re: BWM M5 and Audi RS6
Depends what you're looking for. Reliability ? Practicality ? Price ? Age ? Mileage ? Driven the RS6 and it's sure an awesome machine. But no faster than a WR1. Ever considered Sportquattro ? Was it not you who had a bet with his girlfriend about keeping the Forester ?
Re: BWM M5 and Audi RS6
I still have a bet, with a female friend but not the girlfriend. I was thinking Lisa can still keep the Forester and i could have something a little more "fun" Which model Sport Quattro were you thinking about? We drove the A4 before getting the Forester and really didn't like the ride and handling. Everytime i hit a bump the car gave no feel of what it was doing. Too petty to be a traffic warden...
Dear Chris,
A3's, A4's, A6's, Audi Coupes Mk II, etc are all GIRL'S CARS ! As are all the cars based on them. There has only ever been one car called the Audi Sportquattro ! Gives 'only' 306bhp standard from a 2.1 5-cil 20V but weighs 1000kg And for exclusivity, I think you cannot get much better. Check these otherwise. http://www.fast-autos.net/audi/audisportquattro.html http://www.carclassic.com/stock.asp?StockID=102150
I know the one, thanks for the pictures. I was thinking of something a little newer. I'd always promised myself an Aston Martin Vantage if i were going for a 20+ year old car.

How about a Pheaton W12 or a Merc S55 AMG ? Might sound 'big', but they're excellent value in second hand.
And you'd be surprised what you can do with these cars. They're as fast and nible as their smaller siblings, just got more space, toys and are more comfortable. No small Beemer or Merc I've driven so far gave me more pleasure than the bigger models because it was smaller. You should just give them a try once. The S55 is without doubt the better car (better suspension, fantastic engine,...) but the Pheaton really feels special, probably because it's so exclusive. And I just like to drive it, even if it's not perfect. If I can sell my Merc before the winter, I might buy either of them next spring. Depends a bit on my wife's mood for a new scoob or not. If she refuses totally to drive another STi, I might buy a Pheaton V8 for her or just let her drive my S320 and get a nice scoob (WR1 maybe) or Evo 9 FQ340 for myself.
Both superb machines, but the RS6 just gets it for me.
450bhp & 415lb/ft. However, if you want a bit more there's always the RS6 Avant Plus with an extra 30bhp, 0-125 in 12.7secs and 175mph top whack !!!
RS6.
Clive tunes these to over 500 BHP, with ease, if i could afford one.............. THE WR1 RR DVD http://www.scoobycity.co.uk/wr1/phpBB2/ ... highlight=
True ! The only thing worrying me is that both already now start to look like second hand cars. And that's exactly what I don't like about BMW M3's, Audi S4's, etc. They are very popular with the dodgy London suburb lot. They drool all over them when they're new and once they're on the second hand market, they're all over them. So if you don't have the latest model, it straight away looks like you wanted a performance car on the cheap. Second worry I got is that many of those cars are being bought by people who can afford the (second hand) price, but not the expensive maintenance. Plus, generally moving up from a Vectra V6, they don't understand the importance of good maintenance on performance cars. It's a bit comparable to what we see with older Impreza's. There are quite a few entusiasts, but there are unfortunately also a lot of boy racers who can afford buying them but then cannot afford the running costs. They do no good for the image of the older Impreza's
It stood out too much. Oh and it wasn't getting used which may well stop me from buying a second car again! Too petty to be a traffic warden...
And I have been trying to talk Subaru Finance in letting me swap for a WR1 exactly because it looks much less flash than a Blue STi with gold wheels and blue seats ! PS: Don't tell my wife it stands out, Chris. Something like the WR1 is my only hope of getting a scoob again
OK. It doesn't really stand out at all. Too petty to be a traffic warden...
I've definately gone off the idea of a Maserati 3200. I've seen the service and repair costs.

No, i'd not really ever thought about one of those. I'll have to find out something about them. I do like the look of the Audi A8. Too petty to be a traffic warden...
The Brabus cars are not only powerfull, the engine build etc is done VERY VERY carefully. I am driving a Pheaton V8 at the moment. Has got engine from the Audi A8. Nice engine !
I was thinking about the diesel V8, i'm not too sure if it's a 4.0 or a 4.2.
It'll do 0-60 in around 6 seconds and return 30 mpg. And 479 lb ft of torque. Too petty to be a traffic warden...
The new 4.2 will give about those performances (not the old 4.0). I'm still no fan of modern diesels (too much problems and very expensive to sort out when it goes wrong) plus, when you fire up a petrol V8, you just know you don't want a diesel for any money in the world. Personal preference I must admit.
I've seen your thoughts on diesels before so i won't ask you to repeat them. I'm not sure i'd own a car that wasn't covered by a warranty these days as the cost to fix anything seems to be Too petty to be a traffic warden...
You WR1 will sure have been faster than the new S8 which isn't gonna be any faster than the W12. The V10 will probably have a more sporty charachter though. Still, the extra power on such cars generally is only practical on the unrestricted Autobahns. On our roads, it's hard to exploit the difference between a normal 4.2 and a V10.
Try the normal A8 V8 maybe and spend what you save on getting one with all the toys
