private registrationswent to dvla to put my private plate on retention done all the paper work paid the money and was told 7 to 10 days it would be sorted after 8 days got it in the post but was only tax disc and a form to get no plates on reading the letter it is going to take up to another 4 weeks to get log book back in which time you are not allowed to sell the vehicle the chap im buying my wr1 from is in the same boat so not going to be getting it for another 4 weeks so just awarning to all that want to put no plate on retention takes longer than the 7 to 10 days
That sounds a long time to me, Im sure mine was quicker and nearer the 7 to 10 days! Maybe its different in bonnie Scotland?

Bloody hell! I bought my mate one as a bithday present and he sent the form off Tuesday morning and had the new tax disc and authorisation certificate Friday. It's normally the new V5 that takes a while but I've never waited more than 10 days!
That said, they did 'lose' my uncle's paperwork and that one took about 6 months...
private regits diffrenet in bonnie scotland haha the letter came from manchester dvla lol i phoned dvla and that is there new policy can take up to 4 weeks to get the v5 back in which time you cant sell your car until v5 is back in your hands
I've purchased two private registration numbers from the DVLA website and the process has taken less than a week, but the one I am dealing with now from a private seller may well take longer judging by what I have read, will keep you posted.
private regim really talking about taking my number of my car and putting it on retension dont no in and out of buying a plate how long that takes
they are not to bad mate, each time I've put mine on retention i've got the forms back within 2 weeks... just send everything recorded delivery or go to the dvla local office.
as you've already sorted everything, then you should have you v5 back soon, although the september new registrations might slow the process.
