can you mix tyresIs it advisable to mix tyres ? my 2 front ones are needing changed .
You certainly can mix tyres aslong as you get the correct size and speed rating there will be no problems.
Sooty,
Needs a WR1 now his WRX300 is sold Or a spec D
Yeh, you can.
I had a set of Poxes T1r's and worn the fronts down quite badly so have replaced them with Falken FK452's. I've read nothing but good about them. I'll see if that stacks up over the coming months and as we get into Autumn and Winter.
i have quite dear tyres on the front and cheap ones on the back and its not bad apart from tyre squeel and understeer and the backend trying to brake lose under hard braking, aslong as you keep the tyre pressures correct im sure you'll be fine

iv just put 2 new toyos on the bk, iv got pirellis on the front havent had any problems. i was told by powerstation as long as you match up youl b fine.
I've got the falkens Mick, on my second set 2007 BMW M5
2004 Petter Solberg STi
i agree, well when i said cheap i meant cheaper compared to my fronts lol i hate big huge chunky tyres, but i heard they make your car handle better,i agree as my old scoob had chunkers and it was amazing ver9 grey blobeye sti
You sound like you have been on the buckfast
Totally agree Stu... you know these cars are going to be driven hard and the tyres are the main point of control with the ground... no compromise!! [Just incase this gets lost in translation, I am not slandering you, I know people can be sensitive to these harsh words.]
I had 4 new tyres when I first got my car. Found the front two tyres lost their outter edges fairly quickly about 6-8k miles but the rear tyres were okay. I dont do any drifting or power sliding though, so it would depend how you drive the car I guess. As a comparison the RB320 goes through rear tyres quicker than the WR1. Maybe they are lower profile or maybe its due to the torque but the RB320 which has been owned about the same time as the WR1 has gone through double the tyres my car has. However on the other side of things his car gets 230-250 a tank up to 300 on motorway where as i get 160-170 a tank on the WR1 and up to 230 on a motorway.
I done 260 mile journey the other day and still had just below ¼ tank petrol left when I got home. Had three girls in the car. The journey was mostly single carriageway. A17,
Must have an updated map on it then as mine guzzles fuel in rush hour and on the motorway even if off boost. Either way im not fussed anymore as we have the legendary mondeo diesel for those journeys now lol
Mixing makes of tyres front to back shouldn't be an issue. However different tred depths front to back will definately cause an issue. A shorter rolling circumference will wind up the differential, and is something that Subaru do not recommend.
When I got a puncture on track at Spa last year I bought two part worn Pirelli Corsas for £10 off a bloke with a Noble and ran them home and locally for a while. After no time at all the differential became very unhappy. Under average acceleration it gave the sensation that the gearbox was jumping cogs As soon as the two front tyres were replaced it solved the problem instantly. The fact that the Corsas are track orientated tyres with a minimal tred pattern probably also attributed to the issue, but a substantial variation in tred depth will not be healthy for your scoob. Subaru do quote a figure for the maximum tred depth variation but I can't remember it Previous Owner of #216
i think the main point it being missed with mixing tyres...............there wet handling capabilities
in the dry there is not a massive difference in tyres (unless you have super sticky track tyres) but in the wet all tyres perform way differently my opinion is always put on the best rubber you can afford, as a powerfull car with shite tyres is ........shite. i use pzero neros on one set of alloys and yokohama parada spec 2 on my pff7s. both are good but my opinion is the p zero neros are better. Gracing the drive.....BMW M3 E92 with all the toys!/Integra DC5/ Integra DC2 race car/BMW X5
gone...Impreza RB320 No 112 gone...Impreza WR1 No 84 gone...Civic Type R EP3 gone...Seat Leon Cupra 225 gone...Civic Type R EP3 gone...(shed with weels)
why?well the low profiles are very thin so theres no roll, ones they go they go,with chunkers they have room to flex, either that or its just the new shape that aint good on corner's,ive spun it a few times and my wagon was near impossible to lose ver9 grey blobeye sti
I read it was 2mm differerence which doesn't sound like a lot but given there will be less than 2mm play in the cogs... something has to "compromise"!! Not worth a new diff IMHO... just get decent tyres, always.... [Just incase this gets lost in translation, I am not slandering you, I know people can be sensitive to these harsh words.]
Check this thread, I ended up getting 4 new tyres as mine were going to vary in depth too much. forum/viewtopic.php?t=11698
