does the remap make a big or small differenceIhave been informed by andy forrest the subaru wr1 can be remapped to approx 340bhp and 340ft/lb of torque , does this make a noticable difference, the reason i ask is i had a 5.7l v8 monaro with 333bhp and got it mapped to 390 bhp. i didn't think it was much better . My last car however was 510bhp vxr 500 monaro, what a machine in a straight line ,0-100 9 secs , top speed 190mph come the twisties , no use at all.
Thanks Ross
Mine was mapped by Andy with full system exhaust, de-catted and K&N Induction kit. Trouble is, I had the remap done more or less a couple of weeks after I bought the car, and the modifications done even sooner so I was running the car off boost. In that respect its difficult for me to gauge just how much better the car is running with the map.
Andy said he was very impressed with it though, and claimed it was 348bhp and 330lb/ft torque, I believe. The torque would have been higher had I used an APS or other wing fitted induction kit, as the K&N was causing problems bringing in the early boost, but as such the mid-range is far better. 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
How much did andy charge you for the remap if you don't mind me asking. Thinking of getting mine done there soon, Focus ST's rule!!!
I'm pretty sure it was around £450. Any further mapping would be around £150. Lot of information on it here : http://andyforrestperformance.co.uk/16280.html 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
Ive spoken to a few people who say remapping the standard car can change power delivery but not really give you any gains. In order to get noticeable gains you need to change a few other bits on the car making it quite expensive. This is unlike my other car where a remap doubled the boost from 0.6bar to 1.2 bar and added +55bhp alone which was a big difference.
Ross,
The VXR500 is only 493bhp and does not do 100mph in 9 seconds ! The M5 only does it in 9.4 ! P.s Why the change from a 35k/40k VXR 500 to a 12/14k Wr1 ? Previously: Everything With 4 Wheels over 300bhp
Currently: M6 (57) & Hilux Invincible (60)
He has found he like to drive a decent car unlike these M5 and VXR owners
As I've said before mate, the wr1 unit is like a starter motor compared to the V10
Previously: Everything With 4 Wheels over 300bhp
Currently: M6 (57) & Hilux Invincible (60)
AND as ive said before you will have to take me out for a spin and convince me !!
Granted... the M5 needs something to help it get to 60 quicker so why not put a WR1 engine in, does the job nicely?
The vxr500 i had was running 550bhp, i sold that car after 8 weeks , got fed up with the constant wheel spinning , have owned 2 subaru's in the past and fancy another
I found the best way to stop the wheels spinning on any car is to park it up... Anyone else got any thoughts/tips?
Rossco, You quoted it at 510bhp in your first post!
Megaman and John, you gent's will never look back once you have experienced the V10 at 9000rpm in 4th Previously: Everything With 4 Wheels over 300bhp
Currently: M6 (57) & Hilux Invincible (60)
I find that if you leather it at a hump back bridge pretending to be the Dukes of Hazard and get some air... that when the car lands with a huge crash that the wheels soon stop spinning... RIP Fiat Uno 1998..
It's clear you are hankering after a nice green new focus RS mate, thats the only thing that will be on its roof with all that power two those two little skinny unic-cycle wheels
Previously: Everything With 4 Wheels over 300bhp
Currently: M6 (57) & Hilux Invincible (60)
Why would I want a new focus RS when my ST is quicker ?
John, BMW's dont spin, well not M5's anyway, hence I can pull off a 4.1 second dash to 60mph with the aid of a very hi tech launch control called M Dynamic Mode !
Megaman, I bet you have a well active ebay account, buying parts for that thing Previously: Everything With 4 Wheels over 300bhp
Currently: M6 (57) & Hilux Invincible (60)
and i bet you get through a set of rear tyres every 6,000 miles in that M5 with its "M Dynamic Mode"...
In the wet on a greasy road? I don't believe you, M-Dynamic mode (aka Klaus) will be flicking the power switch on and off in a vein attempt to gain traction through the 2 wheels. I reckon you'd lose control quicker than you would get to 60.. film it on a wet greasy track...
Dare you... oh you did... The M5 is a heavyweight motorway cruiser capable of amazing straightline speed in the dry, hence in the USA they are popular because they don't have bends or roundabouts...
Try a VXR8 Carbon Edition
Massive power and torque - levels an M5 can only dream of!! I got taken for a spin in one by one of my brothers friends and just couldnt believe the acceleration. Bonkers, absolutely bonkers... ...or, if your feeling realy flush, just buy a 997 Turbo and go 0 - 100 in 8 Seconds ... ...even a "mapped" wr1 might struggle against these 2 beasties
Re: does the remap make a big or small difference
I remapped my ex-wife but even the 150K I spent on her didn't help. A £200 neckalce for my mistress was much more effective but then again the basis was less impressive and added to the ex-wife pay-out. This is why I splashed out on another girlfriend afterwards. The pay-out on wife did not change but the girl was much more efficient and satisfying.
Launch control does work in the wet gents, obviously its not quite as effective, but you better not knock its ability until you try it for yourselves
Swede, I wouldnt thank you for any glorified vectra's buddy pmsl Previously: Everything With 4 Wheels over 300bhp
Currently: M6 (57) & Hilux Invincible (60)
I cant believe the car is still rapid on damp or greasy roads compared to a 4wd system... unless the germans have done some funky shit
funnily enough, i have just come back from the BMW R&D centre in Munich...and trust me they do do some VERY funky shit!!
What an awesome place!!
That could be the one I was in. He bought it off a dealer who had it advertised on Pistonheads. The acceleration is absolutely mental, i mean ive been in some highly tuned quick jap crap but the thing was beyond them. Think its something like 600/580 and he paid £35k with 7k on the clock - bargain!!
doesn't matter how much grunt it has got...or could have. Fact remains it is still a GM car and hence will always be seen as a Vauxhall.
Maybe badge snobbery, but I know which one I would rather have in my garage. No questions asked...all day long. V8 is good, but a screaming V10...oh my, god's own engine that one.
