GreetingsHi all
Made the upgrade from WRX to WR1 a month ago and it is without doubt the finest machine I've yet owned. This is quite an accolade, as my work is supplying mega screens all over the world for large concerts and events, from World Cup to Leeds festival. I reckon I've got the biggest TV in the UK at 37 inches, sorry 37 feet! However a WR1 is more fun, easier to use and uses less juice. I am very impulsive and often joining or organising silly adventures so get in touch if I'm missing something I shouldn't be. I'm based in West Wales but distance is no object. There's more from me in the "WR1 register" section - including the strange-but-true story of how my beloved 339 was partly paid by The Vatican... Have fun! Robin Happy owner of 339, the only WR1 paid for by the Vatican!
A picture of the TV is definately required!! Obviously with something next to it to show the proportions!
Welcome again.
Re: Greetings
You're missing something: Read Tommi Makinen rally school tread in WR1oc organised events. Won't be Tommi teaching, but will sure still be a hell of an event on the Artic.
Thanks for the replies chaps, good to see that I'm not the only one staying in on Friday night. It's not usually my style, I'll put this down to research!
OK, here's a link to a rather large screen I supplied for Fatboy Slim last year at Glastonbury. That's him in the middle, the screen weighed around 6 tons and used about 250 amps at full power - and the visuals were in 3D... http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/glastonbury2 ... lery-intro ...As for the potential Artic trip I've already had a good look and it is indeed tempting. I'm seriously considering doing the Cresta Run this winter (lunatic bobsled run at 80mph) but four wheels sounds more comforting! BTW, is 7-10mpg normal when driving "properly"? I once managed 15mpg on the motorway but I nearly died of boredom... Happy owner of 339, the only WR1 paid for by the Vatican!
Yes, especially if it's standard. A small remap can do wonders. Our standard STi struggled to get 10mpg. The Evo 9 I got now was even worse when I drove it first in its standard guise. After the remap and with 60bhp extra, it returns 16mpg.
Now THAT'S interesting. Never occurred to me that a remap could increase economy AND boost power, sounds impossible. However, 4 secs to 60 in a 2 litre car sounds impossible too so I guess I shouldn't overlook the idea! Where, how much and what about warranty and insurance? Sorry, lots of questions. This would really please my bank manager. I've never had to carry 2 spare gallons in a car before, and V-Power ain't always easy to find in the middle of nowhere at 4 in the morning!
Please tell me more! Happy owner of 339, the only WR1 paid for by the Vatican!
welcome
make sure you always have octane booster in the boot, then you don't worry about finding the old shell power stations
I was surprised too when I noticed the Mitsi needed significantly less fuel after the map than before. All comes down to the fact that a lot of slack is built into the normal map to cater for varying circumstances (climate, fuel quality, etc). But you're not really gonna run your WR1 through the desert on 87Ron petrol, are you ? If you stick to a gentle remap and do not change hardware (not really necessary if you want a small power hike)(except maybe losing the cat), your warranty won't be affected as... nobody will notice. Same for your insurance. Then again, Martin (my anorak brother WR 1mpostor (aka number 1 moderator)) found an excellent insurance deal with all the mods declared. He paid less for a 384bhp STi than I did with Norwich Union for a standard one (6 years NCB and no convictions anyway). PS: There is a list of mappers you wanna stay away from
Hi Robin

Alive, well and in search of comrades for the adventure!I haven't disappeared, I've just been having lots of big FUN, a lot of it on these four lovely wheels! And speaking of which, who's up for some of my hospitality in a month's time for the WRC? I know a couple of you have expressed interest, the more the merrier. It would be fun to have several WR1s turn up in convoy and it's a fine part of the world to spend a weekend...
