I have recently put down a deposit on #62. I notice that previous owner "antipope" had it for only a couple of months! Is there something I should now before purchasing I wonder? Car has done 78.5k but in really nice condition. Just having a number of pin dints removed. Ian "Mitchellsdad"

Hi - only owned it for a couple of months, brought it due to mid life crisis. Trouble was I loved driving it so much traded it in for number 201 which has done slightly less miles. Intend to keep this one for a bit longer unless one with less miles crops up!
Number 062 great car, enjoy - you will.
Have a spare manual if you need one - cost P&P (last owner forgot to leave the one that came with the car)

Thanks for response. It gives me confidence that I am doing the right thing. Perf Car Company have ordered me a new manual. If this is not forthcoming I will take you up on your offer. Thanks again.

Trust me you are doing the right thing
BTW - found it likes Shell V Power, Texaco Excellecium (think that is what it is called) and strangely Tesco's Momentum. Did not seem to appreciate BP Ultimum or Esso supreme

Cheers. I guess we are talking super unleaded here? Noticed on the walk around that there is mini-control panel in the pull down tray on lower dash on drivers compartment. Is the related to the alarm system? Alistair explained the imobiliser to me but did not mention the alarm. Plan to go and pick #62 up next weekend.....still having passenger side and roof pin dents taken out. That's due for Monday.

Yep super - not sure whether Urban myth or true but apparently using normal unleaded the ecu will adjust itself so will run ok but there is a drop in the performance, to reset the ecu is not simply a matter of using super unleaded - it needs to be done by a pro. Decided not to take the risk so used super unleaded.
As for the little number pad - I believe it is part of the alarm/ immobilizer and you can use it to change the way the alarm immobiliser works i.e. you will notice that when you start the car the doors all lock, you can change that via the keypad - apparently. Did not realise this until I picked up number 201 which came with the original manual (which is why I have a spare one) and a card with the pin number required to access the system. Might be worth getting PCC to see if they can obtain that number somehow.
Hope that makes sense - may also be worth asking elsewhere on this forum as I confess to being a complete novice and learning as I go along

Thanks, all useful info for me. I am too a novice, ex RS man, but that's part of the fun. Looking forward to Fri/Sat :D PCC phoned earlier to confirm that they have done a cracking job on the pin dents. In the process now of sorting insurance.

After 3/4 tanks of normal unleaded the ecu will have certainly adjusted to it and be getting the best it can from it without harming the engine. There is a decrease in performance though, some tests show as much as 35bhp loss which you notice top end.

Most people run theirs on vpower or bp ultimate to get the best from the car.

What RS did you have?

I had one of the first Focus ST's which got GGR'd to 330bhp eventually but needed traction hence the migration to the wr1 with similar power but traction :)

Have had a MK2 Escort Mexico, Mk2 Escort RS Turbo and a Fiesta RS1800. As for the ST, it was also a Mk1, std but I agree handling 225bhp through front wheels was a challenge. Had a trackday as a present from my wife on my 50th. Lambourgini Gallardo followed by half hour in a Subaru......much preferred the latter, hence replacing the ST for one :D

My 1 would have never got driven if I didn't use it in the rain!! I would feel like I was missing out too much if I had to look out the window each time I wanted to drive it to see if it was raining, as long as you keep a regular cleaning regime, with decent products and keep the car protected well it doesn't cause any issues at all!

Just me, only using 6 months of the year is great.... feels like you have just bought the car all over again, the other six months is spent on servicing and pampering in the garage. If we didnt use fooking salt on the roads, i to would be using all year round.

I can kinda see what you're saying but I've had some of the best moment in my WR1 in the wet and snow, it's when they come into their own league in my opinion

My toy! I have a 1.6 Diesel Focus to run around in.Turned 50 last year and thought....Now or Never! It'll be a fair weather car I guess but the urge to drive in less than perfect conditions may be too overwhelming! There's also the beauty of English weather....go out for a drive when nice and get caught in a bloody downpour 8)
