a few pics from our hols in sunny scotland. We went on our first hol of the year to one of our favourite places, the west coast of scotland, we stayed in beauly which is 12 miles from inverness and has the last shell station selling v-power, so we spent every morning brimming the turbo to the max, we stayed in a fantastic cottage, we had stayed in there previous cottage 2 times before so thought the new one would be the one to go for, if any body wants to have a look i have put there web details, http://www.cottageguide.co.uk/hillcroftcottage/
the weather was brilliant apart from 2 hours of showers last tue afternoon, the rest of the hol was sun and more sun which suited us great, the amount of great driving roads we went on over the 9 days is one of the reasons we love the place:thumbsup:
cracking pics mate, you were lucky with the weather!!
Car looks very cool...What are the running costs like on the porker?
looks like you had agreat time ,nice pics too,
it is better to have had a wr1 and lost it than never to have one at all.
Cracking pics and love the porsche turbo
Some great driving roads up here Glad you got decent weather Focus ST's rule!!!
yep 996 turbo, we have been very lucky with our scottish hols over the years, had 7 visits and think we have only had 4 days of rain in all of them
what do you want to know
I take it you drive it daily? Just in general compared to the WR1 say? Is it reasonable to live with or is it bleeding you dry? I would imagine that the parts are designed to last and not skimped on so you wouldn't be forever replacing parts... Is it heavy on brakes and tyres (obviously dependent on how someone drives)? Is there anything you have had to replace and were surprised by the cost?
yo yo yo yo yoooooo pop's, hows it goin mate?
Hope your both well. About time you changed the car aint it Crash bang wollop!!
I'd also like to hear your thoughts and experiences with the 996, I've been looking at 911's for a while now after knocking the M3 CSL idea on the head and the 996 Turbo is seriously tempting me!
Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...
ditto could do with some info on the porsche !! been interested in one of these for a while now!! nice pics aswell
after having owned 3 subarus can only say that i wish we had done this years ago instead of pumping tens of thousands into new subarus, 03 with ppp, wr1 and rb320,
service wise the porsche turbo has yearly services, a minor service one year then the next will be a major service, cost are minor, £350-£400 and a major £700-£800, had new tyres fitted when i bought the car in aug 09 part of the deal, i have just had to have 2 new rears fitted before we went to scotland which were £240 each fitted, they did over 12k miles which included 8 laps of the ring, 2 track days at cadwell and lots of high speed driving on 5 european trips, so in reallity they did pretty well, the fronts are still good with lots of thread left, you usually get 2 rear set to a set of fronts, the front tyres are £170ish so about the same as subaru tyres, we bought a 3 year warrenty with the car, so have got everything covered apart from the usual wear and tear items, the turbo model is pretty bomb proof compared to other model 996's, which suffer from a couple of seal problems, IMS and RMS seals, since owning the car we have had no problems what so ever, apart from a major service and the 2 new tyres and a dead battery in that 7 week before and after xmas, but that had been the original battery that was fitted when it was built so it lasted well, on the petrol side they are the same as wr1,rb320, usually averags 20-22 a gallon, but can halve that when giving it some beans on a track and autobahns, last year did a tank in just over 100 miles, maxed it out 200mph and the rest of the miles were done between 130 and 180mph, that was really fun, if you are thinking of getting a porsche i would definetly say do it, you wont be dissapointed, if you want to know anything else just drop us a pm.
Thanks for that mate, sounds similar to other people I've spoke to with 996T's. My old man has a 993 Turbo and has been round Porsches most of his life so I'm pretty clued up on them. Running costs won't be much more than the Impreza for all the miles I do a year in all honesty, it's just making sure I can afford it if anything serious goes wrong!
