I open the garage door and there’s my newest pride and joy, I click on the central locking to open the doors and the courtesy lights illuminate up the car in all its glory.
Its been handy having a smaller car as I can loads more stuff in the garage too, my mountain bikes are now safely all chained up in there.
I get in, put keyfob in and press the fancy ‘start’ button, the engine fires up, the exhaust note echo’s nicely in the garage, the xenon lights come on automatically – do there self levelling trick, and wow there bright !!
The service reminder comes up on the dash, its booked in for next week, but I’m happy as it won’t cost a penny as its included in the TLC pack.
That reminds me the tax disc should be here soon, again not too bad £125 for the 12 months !!!!
The leather seats are a bit chilly this morning so I switch the electric heating on them. Soon I get that nice warm feeling !!!!
I decide that I will listen to the ipod for a change so switch that on and fiddle about with the volume on the steering wheel buttons.
I fiddle about and change the colour of the internal mood lighting back to blue, I like the way the blue reflects off the JCW carbon dash bits I fitted a few weeks ago.
I reverse out and hear the customery ‘beep’ as the handsfree bluetooth is connected to my phone. This is followed by another set of beeps as my reverse sensors warns me that I’m getting a bit close to next doors bin they left out on the path.
I drive away, the front windscreen clears nicely from a combination of the climate control and quickclear electric windscreen.
After leaving the estate and car is warmed up I get to my favourite local twisty B road, I select the sport button to firm up steering and quicken the throttle response, it’s early so I have a bit of fun for a few miles. It does handle like a go-kart at times.
Then as I’m joining the dual carriageway I floor it to get into a gap in the traffic, some a*** follows me and his full beam is on, but the auto dim rear view mirror does its trick to avoid temporary blindness.
As were on the boring bit of dual carriageway I select cruise control and settle down for the next 10 or so miles. I smile as the combined mpg is still showing 43mpg - another saving compared to the ‘1’.
Anyway I get to work about the same time as I would have in the scoob, its cost me less and I’ve still had my little bit of fun.
I open the door and the puddle lights light up the ground for me as I get out, I click the remote to open the boot to get my laptop out.
As I walk away from the car I look back at the Dark Silver mini with all its gadgets, its fancy alloys, JCW badges etc and think…….
……………………………God I miss my WR1
