Mondeo ST TDCIWell we sold the Focus ST today and got a Mondeo ST TDCI instead. Mainly because I cant afford to run two high performance cars on one wage.
Here are some pics of the new motor. I have already ordered a remap for it which will be with us early next week via the same handsets I use to tune my Focus ST with. Once tuned the car will run at 185BHP and 428NM. The main reason for doing this is to improve economy and to iron out the flatspot you get with diesels at around 2500 rpm. Car is well kitted out with some cool features like: leather interior, cruise control, auto headlights, auto wipers, folding mirrors, quick clear screen, heated light washers, dvd player and 2 headrest monitors to name a few. Here are some pics:

Respect where it's due Martin... babies/kids come first!! [Just incase this gets lost in translation, I am not slandering you, I know people can be sensitive to these harsh words.]
I guess its still an ST at the end of the day although it runs on the fuel of the devil...
When I see it doing 600 miles to a tank I might change my mind...
First official WR1oc warning goes Foley. Don't encourage him!!
Why did you not go for the Jaguar X tpye 2.2 deilsel same chassis drivetrain, but far better quality all round

i actually like the mondeo's.. blue i think is the best color. but i think from a 2.2 they could have squeezed more out of the engine. VW manage 150 from there 1.9 lumps. only other car id think of over a mondeo is a BMW 320d or a Seat Leon FR diesel but nice choice. i think because you like your ford you want to stick to them so not bad
mwahaha another diesel
Cheers mate yes it is a good family car. I too like the blue but the wife is sick of it now as weve had: Blue Fiesta ST150 / Blue Focus ST170 / Blue Focus ST225... you see the trend? Plus the blue one was 1,000 notes more expensive
We looked at jags as we wanted the Jag X-Type 2.2 Diesel Estate. However the running costs were more than the ford. I think the service for the jag was £368 notes vs the mondeo £180. The jag was less economical for some reason too and didnt feel as pokey to drive. Maybe its a heavier car with all the luxury comfort in it. It was one of the cars we short listed though mate and if the mondeo wasnt around at the right price then the jag would have been the next favorite. The missus also said it didnt feel as sporty to drive as it was more comfort oriented, kind of floats round corners rather than goes where you point it if you know what i mean.
Yes we test drove a seat altea 140 and 170 diesel, in both fwd and 4wd. The cars were well kitted out but very expensive still for what they are, they need another 6-12months to come down to the price range we needed for a straight swap with the Focus. The car did feel a lot pokier than some of the others we test drove. I think the pokiest one we test drove was actually the new impreza boxer diesel. But the scooby garage wouldnt move on price and it was like 22-23k for the 2 they had in stock. Nice cars - less space than the others but best drive in my opinion. Mondeo is what the wife wanted at the end of the day so to save the ear ache that is what we went for... ... however after driving it today and seeing its projected 500 miles to a tank with city driving im quite impressed with it. its torquey to drive but its going to take getting used to. What I find at the moment not having driven many diesels before is if you want to overtake you have a power band to use. You find you rev it out of the power band when trying to overtake and as such you get half way past a car and the car just dies until the turbo gets back in its power band. Ive got to get in the habbit of keeping the revs at 1500 to 2500 until the remap is applied which makes it rev from 1500 to 3800ish apparently making it more driveable.
once its remapped it will be much better.. i had my astra done and the powr would come from 1.5k to redline ( being about 5k) but it would just keep pulling. and to be honest for a diesel its not bad on fuel and it will be quicker than a few petrols you see.. big jump from the WR1 but the fuel consumption will be well worth it.. and still if you really wanted you could make it quicker with a few small mods and try have fun with type r's.
but i dont think it was a bad choice. im not going to ask what you spent on it because you probably paid a hell of a lot!
Well I came to work this morning in my WR1 having driven the diesel mondeo all weekend... by heck it makes you appreciate the power in the scooby
Nice one bud, I've had a few of them, currently got the 2008 Vectra Sri Cdti 150 Xp for work, cracking car, very similar.

My H has the x type 2.0 diesel or arthur has he is known to some around the Wr1oc, but it is the sport model which is far better than the lardy classic model which is like a boat on a cold thursday stormy nigt in the north sea As for servicing dont take it to Jag, end off fookin license to print money. 2007 BMW M5

Think the st has the same TDCI 2.2 i have in my transit van,
Ovbiously the gearbox and other things are different, In the van you get boost till 2k revs then the boost just dies off Focus ST's rule!!!
Focus ST's rule!!!
FPMSL... great comparison. Transit v Mundaneo
Yep same engine in my ducato too 2007 BMW M5

Thanks mate were really impressed with it especially all the toys that you don't seem get on the sporty cars like cruise control and rain sensing wipers, tvs in head rests etc.. Imposter - The X-Type that I had a go in was a standard X-type. it was very comfy, leather seats, that old man wood effect etc, but rolled a lot so maybe we test drove the wrong one? Went okay with the 2.2D in it to be fair. Foley - Have you seen how fast white van drivers go down the motorway... must be a very good engine to go those speeds WR1 Bro - I think you might have made a mistake not getting a Mondeo before now mate, you really dont know what ya missing
You LAZY fooker!! cant manage teh stalk next to the steering wheel...I guess the indicators just wear you out..... Crash bang wollop!!
