Cool. What did the RS4 have the M3 V8 did not have ?

To be honest I did enjoy them both but the RS4 felt more responsive and a better drive all around. Plus I'm a firm beliver in AWD when it comes to serious play time.

Personally I don't like the looks of the M3 compared with the RS4 but again I do love the avant compared to the saloon.

I'm surprised the M3 felt less responsive than the RS4. One would guess the 4WD would not play in Audi's favour and that the Beemer would have the more explosive engine (if they want to honour their reputation).

On 4WD, I am personally not convinced it's useful in the UK. Most of the time, all the ESP's, DSC's, etc cut in before you can make use of the 4WD properly.

No, I haven't actually. Maybe worth having a look at. It always struck me as a big GT rather than a real sportscar. (prejudices... )

Have you ever driven it?

True. And it looked OK on pictures.

That being said, it would really have to be very good as they'll still be 26-27K, I assume and for 37K you can get a one year old, dealersourced M3 at the moment... :?

If I'd go for new, I might be more tempted to get an Evo X FQ360.

Think it looks stunning, always liked the original 240z looks & its like a modern version of that.

Evo x sounds good from what i've read & it looks so much better than a hatchback scoob.

Sorry but i've just never been a Bmw fan, i know what they can do & all that but they've just never done anything for me. Horses for courses & all that, if we all liked the same thing it would be a boring world.

ps did you get the link for the buckets? they have disapeared?

Well, the key thing that holds me back of an Evo (or scoob) is that I got them in the past for two main reasons:

1. I needed 4WD for Finland
2. They were brutal to drive

I am now back in UK and they lost their brutality. Plus, as mentionned in the opening post, the idea is to have a really fun car that is also useable by my girlfriend so if they were still as brutal, it would be pointless to swap the IX for an X.

BMW problem here is the image. Technically, I do still like them. Ashame they don't make screaming 6-in-line coupes anymore like the old M635CSi's etc.

No offence to your girlfriend intended here but can she not drive your current evo? there's plenty of girls up here drive modded scoobs/evos.

If she could then you wouldn't need a new car.

No, I split the post and put your links in the 'car washing' topic in 'Car care'.

Should still all be there.

What I did have however, was that Gee's last post on this topic went with the other posts as he submitted it while I was splitting. system !

Driven R8 today.

Really nice car actually. Not really fast, but gives a sense of event, feels reasonably light but you need to grab it by the scruff and push it brutally to go really fast. Not a car for your lazy cruiser-boy.

Gearchange is a dream with the metal gear-'gate'.

Really enjoed driving it.

Drove teh 911 S (again). Mak preferred the Porker as the thought the Audi looked 'weird'. Porker still is faster and more nimble.

Awaiting numbers now.

How about throwing in an Aston into the mix?

The baby V8 is a bit disappointing in the speed stakes, but for sense of event and the interior is just awsome...apart from that ECU key fob thingy from Volvo!!

The newer V12 unit should put an end to it lacking the power and speed of others and boy what a sound!!

Other than that, i would go with RS4 and use the pocket change to get an Atom3 or Lotus Eleven.

I've driven both Astons and they are the most disappointing cars I have EVER driven.

They are really heavy and cumbersome. A bull elephant is more agile.

I want a car for driving. If I cannot throw it around like KKK in his old days, it's sh1te.

Because I know you're all a bunch of tyrekickers with more money than common sense (or a woman with more money than yourself) and hence have driven quite a few toys.

To judge from your attitude, there are sure more :wank: up there than here. That being said, this is still UK, so what can you expect?

I wonder why one thinks I have no intention of buying. Because I am not going all "Waw" when I drive an M5 or another of the many overrated junkboxes and buy it straight away?

Sorry if I am not impressed by what you think is cool. I tried a few cars when I got the STi (Leon Cupra, Evo VII, Clio RS, Civic Type-R), tried quite a few when I got the Evo (incl. the 911, 650Ci, Spec-C, RS4, etc) and tried a few when I got the AMG 6 months ago (tried X6, M5, CL500, CLS 63, E63 and S8).

Anything wrong with this?

That being said, I had a good laugh yesterday.

When I ordered the RS4 few years ago, I had a serious bust up with the salesman when he told me that 1. it was 6 months late; 2. I had to sort my own transport meanwhile and 3. the price would go up meanwhile and I would have to pay it...
Cherry on the cake was his explanation for the delay: "Audi sometimes re-shuffles buildslots for more important customers". You can't say that to a customer, whether he drives an A3 diesel or an RS6 !

So when looking for an R8 to drive, I avoided Audi Basingstoke. Arrived at Audi Newbury yesterday to be greeted by... the tw@t who used to work in Basingstoke !

Bloke sees the Merc and goes " I see you still like fast cars". "Yes, it's great one manufacturer doesn't mind picking up Audi's drop-outs :2: "

Nothing wrong with trying before you buy its the only way to find out if it suits you, be it a pair of jeans or a car.

Fine your not impressed with what i like but thats ok, i'll never have the budget you have for cars so i only look at whats reachable for me, i don't think i'll ever really be able to look at paying more than the 30k i did for the wr1 & buying that stretched me for a while.

What bugs me with you is your continual put down of other folks choice of car. I've never driven most of the cars you mention & i'm never likely to as they're out of my budget.

I haven't put down any of the cars you've mentioned as they are all nice cars but you continualy put down the wr1.

There are lots of scoobs, evos, skylines etc up here as they are all fantastic cars & the most fun for all the amazing roads we have to drive up here, if owning one of these cars makes you a wanker then stop & look for a moment you have owned 2 of these a scoob & evo so does that make you a double wanker??? No it doesn't it means you enjoy some spirited driving so stop calling the kettle black Mr pot!

I'm sure you did have fun yesterday as i would love to have driven a R8 & a 911 8)

I totally understand why you cancelled your rs4 order i would have been pissed with them to! As you say all customers should be important & not just ones with mega bucks or status there should be no que jumping.

Gee, I hope I'm correct in saying that a lot of what goes on here is light hearted banter, atleast I hope that's what it is otherwise it would be very dissapointing for the forum, certainly I can vouch for most of my posts being tongue in cheek and aimed at the lads for a bit of a wind up etc.

I must also agree with you, that we have the very best roads up here, and one hell of a lot of performance car per head of capita.

I think swede is a bit of a tyre kicker, and is obviously ill informed about a lot of car's, and has formed incorrect opinions of certain car's based on short test drives in built up area's of the country, It actually takes atleast 7 days of daily driving to explore the capabilities of an M5 due to all the possible settings with suspension, DSC and gearbox.

To slate a WR1 is shocking, and in all my time on this forum, that is something I simply would not do, the biggest regret in all my car days was selling the Wr1 it was a fantastic fantastic car, If I could have it back now I would, I love them.

As for going round test driving numerous car's., I dont know, I think thats slightly sad, I was never one for going round garages begging test drives, Only when I had funds in the bank would I venture round and make the purchase I was after.

Of course you must drive a car to get a feel for it, I'm not disputing that, I'm not surprised Audi slipped you back down the build list though swede, you tyre kicker

True. Which is why half of the members don't have one anymore

I must disagree with the statement that I put people's cars down. I just have an in-build hatred of people who think they drive God's own car and attribute qualities to it that it simply doesn't have. Talking out of their @rse is one of the ways you Brits put it.
I will always mention the qualities of my own cars in the light of my personal preferences and unlike some I do have no problems with acknowledging that they also have (often many) downsides.
If I am honnest, that is the one thing that irritates me in your posts: you can't accept that the scoob, while a great car, is also ridden with faults.

Anyway, where do you get it that I am putting the WR1 down ? Or that I call those who drive scoobs wankers??? You must have a complex and looking at your signature, that actually wouldn't surprise me. You're the only member who has to be negative in his signature. Does that tell us something about your personality ?

The Impreza STi was and is definitely one of the most fun cars I know and I don't see where I am putting the WR1 ever down in an objective discussion.
The only time I do so is when we're getting the boring :blahblah: again on Evos from people like yourself. Banter, as Bbigman puts it, 'stuck record' would be more appropriate.

Other than that, read my post in the "WR1 Design faults" and give me any point where I am not objective.
To do you a favour, I will go off-piste a bit and put the negative points of the Evo down too in the same topic.

Anyway, sorry for venting too.

On the budget, I disagree completely with those who think expensive cars are more fun than budget cars.
Indeed I have the luck to be able to look at reasonably expensive cars (I do welcome anyone to swap life-styles though :?). So I go out and drive them indeed and that has shown so far that there are more dissappointments on the road than anything else. The R8 and 911 were great, but not convincing enough to stop me asking Mitsi and Ford to have a drive in their Evo X 360 and Focus RS anyway. And if there were still any fresh Spec C's available, I would be very tempted. Totally different price. But it's the feeling I get when nailing it that counts.

Tyre kicking? Sure. My principle is simple: I like to try an interesting car at least once. Most of them turn out exactly to be that: interesting for one drive.
It's the cars I want to absolutely have a second testdrive in, I know are worth buying.

The STi was one of them. With the Evo, I just couldn't wait for the next drive. I would want to find exactly the same again now.

NB: You can think whatever, but a well driven Evo IX will leave any Impreza for dead on a twisty road.

Sorry but can you please highlight where i have said the wr1 is gods own car as you put it & where i have attributed qualities that it does not have please? Yes i say the 1 is a great car & fantastic package but it is so thats a truth. It isn't faultless but i have never said it was, no car is faultless. God i'd be plain stupid to think a scoob was the perfect car!

From your use of the wanker smiley in your post 3 or 4 above this. I have no complex i honestly don't give a hoot about what someone thinks about me especially someone on the internet that i have never met. Pmsl at you looking so much into my signature it was some thing i saw someone else on another forum had & laughed at it as its a pun on the 6th Sense film.

Sorry if you don't like the scoob / evo banter but you will find it whatever scoob/ evo forum you use or car meets/shows you go to its a friendly rivalry similar to football banter between rival teams. You can't honestly say that the MLR never take the piss out of scoobs can you?
