Hello Mark,.

Here are the stats for the FQ400MR

And the Stats for the V10 M5

All taken from www.fastsaloons.com

Incase you cannot be bothered with clicking links, I summarise

M5 = 270bhp/tonne
FQ400 = 280bhp/tonne

M5 = 0-100mph 9.8 seconds some tests claim 9.1sec
FQ400 = 0-100mph in 10.9 secs

M5's are limited in 7th Gear, however they will do 171mph in 6th
FQ400 top speed in 6th gear 157mph

You can delimit an M5 and it will do over 190mph.

Top Gear Test Track times

M5 = 1m 26.2secs
FQ400 = 1m 24.8secs

Now, let's get this straight, you do not know me,I do not know you, I have never written anything insulting or otherwise about anything you may have posted on the forum, so I do not understand why you come on here making the comments about me that you have, I feel they were uncalled for.

The discussion which is all it is, is on going, all it is doing is bringing debate and interest to the forum.

My opinion remains the same, physics, mathematics or otherwise, the M5 is a better car than the FQ400.

And yes I am blown away by the M5 it is an epic car, more epic than anything I have ever driven, people can feel free to take my advice or leave it, just because you love Jap modded cars it doesnt mean you are correct.

And incase you hadnt noticed, I have owned atleast 20 impreza's, evo's, supra's and gto's.

So I dont exactly hate them and this post in no way insinuates that I am downing said vehicles in favour of german wagon.

A little research on my posting, will show that the Wr1 is along with the P1 my all time favourite car.

Glen

Sorry, Glen, but we cannot agree with this.

MM was expressing his opinion on this forum and was putting things in perspective by underbuilding his opinion with facts. He was not attacking anyone or making 'comments that were uncalled for'.

By making a statement on a forum, you are openly inviting people to give their opinions. If you cannot live with them, then do not give them the opportunity to do so.

Maybe we should remind some around here that a forum is exactly an open space where people can freely express their opinions.
As long as they are reasonably underbuilt, they have the full right to do so.

As far as I know, we are in the UK, not in China or Finland so we will stick to freedom of expression.

Feel free to have a good argument with MM or anyone else but respect someone else has his/her own opinion and can defend it.
Up to each participant to make his own point, without the need to get personal.

Finally, I do not think anyone is argueing one should have a different taste in cars. We're all different and expect different things from our cars and while one may think his car is the one God drives around in paradise, the other will think it's not. As long as we agree on this we're fine.

Swede and WE whoever we maybe at 1am, I have highlighted below the comments I have an issue with, and If I may, I shall quote from the WR1 OC's rules, to which we all agreed at the time of registering.

"You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). "

And I quote Marks comments aimed at me :
I'm sorry, but your masturbatory prose extolling the virtues of your own car highlights the rather blinkered outlook you have on every other car.

Fairly obvously an FQ400 has some major downsides compared to a M5, but performance is not one of them and you are a bit stupid if you can't see that.
Well said Glen :wink:

We all have opinions, we should'nt use personal insults regarding car orientated opinions.

M5 is a awesome car as is the fq400, if I had a chioce I'd go with the lardy middle-aged german wagon :lol:

Yes, you are correct i appolgise but with the caveat that most people would not find the words 'mastubatory' and 'stupid' either vulgar or offensive etc. Maybe you are a little bit overly sensitive about whatever car you happen to own at the time?

Replace the term 'mastubatory' with 'over the top' and 'a bit stupid' with 'not looking at the whole picture' and hopefully that won't upset you.

I googled FQ400 performance and M5 V10 performance and specs etc and thats what it came back with. I find it interesting your qoute 'some claim 9.1sec'. Seems to me you seem to desperately want to justify the performance of your own car all the time

"some claim 9.1 sec"
"No way it would touch it 0-190 mph"

etc..

Very odd really.

I totally agree with you the M5 is a better car all round than a FQ400. This originally stemmed from your rather volatile and defensive reaction to Poesy's "go M5 baiting" comment, and the stats and figures show that it is faster around a track( and i would not call the top gear test track tight and twisty either) which is what i was originally eluding to.

What you think is a better car as you say is purely how the individual feels. Purely subjective. This is not what i am talking about. I am talking purely about performance and power to wieght ratio so stop going off on one about 'better car'.

No one is going to say an ariel Atom or a Caterham R500 is a better car than an M5 are they, but fairly obviously the laws of physics say they will absolutely toast an M5 or FQ400 around a track...and bugger me they do.

Power to wieght ratio is where it's at when you are talking about true performance (along with a few funnies like aerodynamics thrown in)

It is just my opinion of course Mark, perhaps presa can let us know his thoughts, not that I guess it matters to anyone which is better, of course im excited about the M5 as I am astonished how good it is, for me its about luxury combined with performance, for Poesy its about track days, appologies if it seems to anyone that Im coming on a Impreza forum and trying to promote german cars lol, that was not my intention.

Had I have only ever owned 1 evo, I would probably say the FQ400 was good, but I havent, I have owned many, and by comparison the 400 is not one of the better evolutions they released.

Just ignore them Bigman. The likes of the WR1oc resident weedies (namely Marky Mark and Poesy) are trying to prove their manly prowess and verbally "turn you over" since they wouldn't stand a chance of turning you over in person... Between them they might just about lift your kilt.

I agree there.

This probably was 'allowed' given the author's reputation of being 'sexually liberated' (we're running on Bro's advice here :wink:).

My point was more that we should allow for people to disagree on car choice and be open to their thoughts. We're welcome to discuss them until the cows come home. We just can't straight tell someone he is not entitled to express his opinion.

In your view MM's basis on which he claims an FQ400 is the better car, is irrelevant given what you are expecting from a car, if we understand you well.

I think we all can live with that, including MM. But maybe too often people forget to mention the bit 'what I expect from a car' (and to expand on that).

I’m sure no one (and certainly not me) thinks you are promoting German cars and so what if you were?

It’s a big 10-4 to what you are saying about it not mattering to anyone. Don’t take this the wrong way but it really does seem like it matters an awful lot to you, I can’t really see why you seem to have to ‘justify’ your cars performance all the time otherwise?

Luxury combined with performance I can’t think of anything that will top an M5 without spending stupid money. I love them and would personally ‘lift your kilt’ and do whatever would be required if you would buy me one! I’m not as proud as Poesy and will do a turn if the rewards are right. :mrgreen: And I’m not a huge fan of an FQ400 either, fantastic bit of kit but way overpriced for what you got over a 320/360 etc. Even more overpriced than a P1 was and to a lesser extent a WR1

On the flip side I cant think of anything better than an FQ400, for driving to a track without getting wet and cold, hooning around faster than all the Italian exotica and lardy arsed German uber saloons generally driven by people who are well up themselves, then driving back home without getting wet and cold. For this, it’s at the top of the pile, as the M5 is at the top of it’s respective genre.

As regards forum personalities, every Half decent forum needs opinionated f*ckers like you, Poesy, Bro, Swede, and myself. Being an opionated f*cker does however mean that if you are going to gob off then you have to expect a verbal spat with others who don’t necessarily agree with your opinion, and on occasion expect a bit of a slap when you can’t back up your opinion Again, all good and healthy stuff.

Poesy speaks completely out of his tack at times, but fair play he can answer back to the inevitable disagreements to his opinion without crying that someone ‘was a bit rude’ or said a naughty word.

His mate Gangsta could’nt though, he was as opinionated as they come (fair play) but a mardy arsed scrote when questioned about his opinions. :lol: Don’t go the way of him please.

All’s fair in the world of love and war, and also in the world of keyboard warriors and internet heroes, so just get on with it and don’t spit your dummy out. No hard feelings here at all fella. :thumb:

Thats just taken me a good half hour to read all that :roll:

Girls girls girls, its been a long time since I've seen so much biatch slapping on here :lol:

Ultimately in my opinion the FQ400 and M5 are completely different cars and cannot be compared at all. If you were in the market to buy and M5 you wouldn't even consider an FQ400 as an option and vice versa.

They are both awesome cars from very different perspectives, but I'd have the M5 everytime as it suits my current requirements in a car to the letter and then some 8) 8) And thats the point everyone has different requirements in a car, otherwise they'd all be the same :roll:

Oh and one more thing I am and wanted a...

There are a few bits and pieces missing here, presa. If you do a data round, make sure you don't miss out pieces or your whole analysis, however correct it is otherwise, will have zero credibility.

In this list, you should have all the other cars that have a speed limiter and how fast they are when derestricted.

For starters, if you follow this logic, the Merc SL65 will be up there above the M5. Same goes with the RS6 Audi and few other German 'cruisers' with more than 500 bhp.

Also... I find it hard to believe that a standard M5 derestricted would go 330km/h. Given it 'only' has 500bhp and the aerodynamics are not in its favour (cx is OK but it has a much larger front surface), this just does not look realistic when I compare it with much more powerful sportscars.

A 911 GT2 for instance is half as big, has much more power and doesn't go as fast???

:?

You really are naive. :lol:
