Performance Friction upgradeI managed to sort a good "show price" deal with Co-ordSport at the NEC (Autosport Show) on Sunday.
I happened to be near Dudley yesterday, so I popped by and picked them up.
Hi Martin
Yes, they're the standard size as I still wanted to be able to use 17" wheels. I've not fitted them yet, but I bought some brake cleaner and some copper grease today, so just waiting for some decent weather.
ScoobyDan has performance friction... but these look slightly different. He was so pleased with them that he took them off his Bugeye to fit to his WR1.
I have these aswell.
You will not be disappointed either on the road or on the track. I havent been able to make them fade yet !! First set of pads did over 20,000 miles too Duncan : www.racedynamix.com

Hi Duncan
Your reviews on here and Scoobynet were the deciding factor in going down the Performance Friction route.
They are perfect mate - you will love the sound of them when you stand on the brakes for the first time zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..chirp
I have no doubt that these will cope adequately with a full season on track aswell as tesco's runs Duncan : www.racedynamix.com

In all honesty, will braided brake pipes make any difference on a 2 year/13k mile old car?
I understand the risk of expansion of the pipe on something that’s getting on a bit, but I’m unsure if it’s a case of emperor’s new clothes. Regarding the standard brake fluid, I know its hydroscopic (absorbs water) and there’s a possible problem with boiling the water in the fluid and then having air in the system, but I’m no track master, so is there any need for road use?
Definite improvement on mine when I put them on - pedal is much firmer for everyday use and does not distort or expand on track. Good value for £60 IMO.
Fluid .. the Motul stuff is £7 for 500ml so not going to be a huge expense and at least you know there is nothing there that will hold you back. (both from Alyn at ASP) Duncan : www.racedynamix.com

Just bleed it through - you would probably want to do that anyway though. Get a couple of the 500ml containers and it will leave you some spare.

Definitely get the braided hoses. do the rear too, even if your not upgrading the read brakes...will give you a MUCH better pedal feel. As dunk says you'll want to totally change the fluid too, for something decent
the rear pads are soooo cheap it would be rude not to Duncan : www.racedynamix.com

then defo get front and rear braided lines. trust us, we're the wr1oc
1. Calendar 2. Spa 3. Scotland Need some more ideas?
I love the boxes they come in - worth £600 themselves IMO

Yes, new discs and front and rear pads. I've not fitted anything yet as the weather has been dire, plus the car is declared as SORN at the moment anyway. Duncan Do ASP sell Motul brake fluid as I can only see Millers listed?
Hi, glad to see you got the PF’s. I won’t ask how much?
A few comments from working on my WR1 brakes. Phase one - About a year ago fit new grooved discs, Mintex Xtreme pads, DOT 5.1 and braided hoses. (This setup was ok until very hard braking from high speed when became v juddery, pads too hot and deposited on discs, ok cold. ) Problem: Everything went ok but couldn’t undo one connection of existing flex hose/rigid pipe joint despite best quality brake pipe spanners. Answer: Got local firm CAM’s to fit hoses and bleed. When refitting front calipers used loctite on fixing bolts, big mistake, see phase two. Phase two - had discovered Duncan’s write up which was just what I needed. Fit PF F/discs and pads. When I dismantled to fit PF’s the loctite on the fixing bolts wouldn’t release and threads in one alloy caliper knackered. The alloy adhered to loctite Answer: Got CAM’s to machine out old threads and fit solid stainless steel inserts (not helicoils) phew! Didn’t use loctite on reassembly just coppergrease. Before this I’ve always used loctite but on steel/steel threads with no probs. Suggestion - If using loctite get one which is for light vibration only. Bled all four brakes with new Dot 5.1. This is where the wife is handy as she is trained to press brake pedal on command, (no other commands work). Rear PF pads to be fitted later as discs need light skim to remove rusty lip. This also needs doing as I believe there is slight pad knock off which gives a few too many millimetres free brake pedal movement. The Texstar pads had done 8k mls and show very little wear. Bedding in process completed on wet evening, luckily all smooth and progressive. Brakes now smooth and powerful and get a lot less brake dust on wheels. The mintex stuff used to weld itself to the wheels after a few miles. Incidentally had wheels refurbed at http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk/ did very good job, colour matched. Now looking into getting more castor angle to improve steering feel, I notice the wr1 wheelbase is 2525mm whereas later cars are 2540mm apparently due to modified front control arms, which increase castor a la Type C & RA’s. yes - give Alyn a call on the phone - there are so many hundreds of things he sells that arent listed on his site. Duncan : www.racedynamix.com

Duncan I spoke to him this morning and mentioned your name. He said I didn't need the full on Motul RBF600 fluid but just their (Motul) DOT 5.1 stuff.
cool - that'll do nicely then Duncan : www.racedynamix.com
