me trying to drift my scooby

Postby dynamix » Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:27 am

After speaking to Houdini last night I said I would post a short video of me attempting to drift my car at the BigPower drift night in May:

http://www.bigpower.co.uk/~murano3/Dunk.wmv

ps get the sound up on the PC :D

The most fun I have had for ages - my face ached from laughing so much whilst me and Beanpotter were in the car doing this

the thing is ......

to do it properly there (ie link the two corners at each end) I needed to:

1) have more speed
2) use more opposite lock
3) stop laughing long enough to keep my concentration

Having never done that kind of stuff before - i was brought up being taught that tidy and smooth is best / quickest and when I was young and impressionable I had minis therefore drifting is a completely alien concept to me.... forcing the car the be sideways isnt natural for me.

The next drifft night is on the 22nd August and I am going to have another go at it to see if i can do it but mainly to have a laugh.

One thing is for sure though, I feel a lot more comfortable being sideways in the car now, so cant all be bad :D

by the way, the track is reasonably narrow so it does force use into actually trying to drift around on track and accurately rather than an empty car park where space is not a restriction.... suffice to say i wasnt the best

Great Vid, Duncan, and wonderful to see you on Wednesday night at Snetterton. Smooth is definitely your style, as is mine :thumb: I would struggle with connecting two corners that way too, but it does look like immense fun 8)

Nice vid there matey.
Nice use of the hand break too.
Not for me though.
I find its better to unsettle the car with a little flick.
In the wet for power sliding DCCD all the way back so load of juice going to the rear end and way you go.
Still looks like you were having load of fun though
The WR1oc still rocks...
Even if i do drive a Smart car!...

 Thanks, Dan. I think seeing Spike's face at Spa when he got overtaken by the outside just before the long righthander (Brussels) and then sees us going through the corner sideways all along !

So when are you guys coming for a drifting session in Finland this winter?

Fraser will do a poll. With some luck, I hope to be able to organise a ice-driving school with some cottages etc for 650-700 GBP, flights included for 3-4 days.

Nothing like going through a long corner on a B-road sideways at 90mph on 4" of ice... to then find out the garbage collectors are at the exit... My mum still feels unwell, and that was March 2005
