Front bumper

Postby Lee190888 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 9:42 pm

Hey does anyone know where I can get a front bumper clip from? Unfortunatley had a new miss with someone today down a narrow country lane ( Yeah thanks for that old woman driving a mini!!) The front bumper scuffed a verge and there seems to be about 5mm of movement on the mount

Before I go at it like a bull in a china shop can anyone tell me is it worth taking the wheel arch out myself or just take it to the garage?

do it yourself mate...

the only thing that holds the bumper on are the black pop out type clips. About £1.50 from the local stealer...or you can also try somewhere like CPC or RS Components. I just bought 30 of them with my new bumper and its easy enought to take off.

There are a few clips and 3 bolts that hold the winglets to the bumper, and a few clips that hold the front bit of the inner arch to the underneath of the bumper.

Not much to it, to be honest.

Tie wraps can also be your best friend too!

I had a blessing in that the wide bolt at the back of the arch was just loose! Must have just gradually undone. Did you buy a complete new bumper? If I keep the 1 I'm contemplating replacing. Just to freshen it up. But to be honest I'm thinking of selling her still. I want to modify an sti!?

What you think?

yeah, got a whole new front end really.

radiator
air con matrix
bumper, trim panel and mesh
winglets and inserts
arches

all sprayed up and looking like new...even took off the two cross members and sprayed them up again along with some waxoil treatment and a bit of body sealant.

Had to relocate the engine heater plug so I didn't have to cut a hole in the bumper so its now just by the number plate inset into the mesh.

Sounds like you were unlucky! Fortunately enough mine was only the bolt worked itself loose. Where? How much? Did you get your new bumper though mate because if I keep the car I'm very tempted to get new.

Yeah pretty much.

Prices are probably not indicative of what it would cost in the UK - as I bought from the Finnish dealer close to me. Postage from UK was a bit OTT and not much in it so had to bite the bullet...but it was worth it.

Bumper - €720 inc driving light surrounds
Winglets - €150 each

Radiator - €368
Matrix - €310
Arches - €250 each

Clips and fixings - €38

Got the parts sprayed up by a friend who has his own bodyshop, so only paid €200 for the materials. He also did the front wings, bonnet and scoop at the same time.

Was really temped to fit a FMIC as the front end was in bits, but couldn't decide and certainly wasn't going to spend over a grand on something that doesn't really improve things that much unless you go for a propoer spec engine with excess of 450.

Turbo, injectors, fuel and boost reg next up me thinks.
