simple mods

Postby supracat » Tue Dec 16, 2008 7:00 pm

ok. have bitten the bullet and the following mods are being fitted on mon 22nd Dec. - will aim to update everyone with a before and after.

Current car spec is std with exception of H&S centre pipe.

Mods will be;
1. H&S straight through downpipe to replace the two existing cats
2. K&N air filter
3. Resonator mod
4. Ecutek and AF remap

hopefully get close to or near my target of 350bhp/torque. - my mate Dunc at Hypertech will do all the before/afters and fitting.

Where are you getting the intake mod from? take it you mean the snorkus pipe to get rid of the resonantor box in the inner wing?

Saw these before & quite fancied one as the up the induction volume on the standard air box. The were only available in the states when i saw about them.

Ah so your going to Hypertech if it's Dunc then, have heard nothing bad said about him only good. Seems a good combo Dunc's spanner work & Andy F's black magic :D Plenty of folk on scottish scoobies had great & happy results using them together.

Would you mind asking him how much he sells the part for please when your in?

I'm a bit unsure of the truth in the exhaust gas temerature statement. I.e.
"The more energy you can keep in the exhaust gas (in this case heat), the faster that gas goes."
Never heard of such effect in years of pipeline design! Consider the statement! Do you really think that an increase in the pipeline material temperature is going to have a detrimental effect on gas flow rates?

Holy thread revival batman.

Well i am sure. It's basic physics. For a given gas volume, it's pressure will increase as the temperature increases.

Not sure what pipes you design, but since time imemorial car / bike racing teams have been lagging (a bit pikey but cheap) or coating with ceramics etc. I'm not saying it makes a massive difference but every little helps. This includes F1 teams and i suspect they know a bit more about this kind of stuff than you or I.

Any heat that can be kept out of the pipework means more heat in the exhaust gas. Heat, as i'm sure you know, is nothing more than energy. Particularly in turbo applications, As much energy as possible in the exhaust gas is a good thing for obvious reasons.

This is my first scooby so am still learning :) , I was told if i was getting a remap and decat i would need an uprated fuel pump is this true?

No uprated pump needed as the wr1 had an uprated pump fitted by Prodrive as part of the package. 255 pump if i mind right.

Depends on how much power you require also, above 400 fitting a FPR may be required, above 450 perhaps a even more uprated fuel pump like the bosch, but it is slighty noisier.

All he mentioned was a decat & remap which wouldn't need a new pump. Yeah if he was heading for big numbers then he would have to think about changing it along with the other mods required.

Cool so i don't need an uprated fuel pump, Just going for a pannel filter decat and remap, Will i see 350bhp with these mods? Has the wr1 got two cats? If so do they both cats need took off? Is the decat the same decat as the STI?
Cheers j

You'll probably get arounf 335/340, would get over 340 if a induction kit was fitted.

Prodrive downpipe is the only cat on WR1 or a sti with ppp.

Well .. i was running around 340.... mine was 311 bhp standard

when i had Rcm induction kit, ecutek map,

And if your goin for a decat .. id go for a 3" system

Prodrive don't do a decat, what I meant was the cat on the car is made by Prodrive, so you'll have to buy a aftermarket decat, but do you just buy the decat downpipe or do you get a full 3" stainless system like rcm or aps both similar price, so if you have a budget it will depend on which way forward for you !

I started with 340, but it is never enough you'll always want more
