who you getting to fit all your stuff and map?
Andy Forrest says he's booked up until Feb19th, so will order the bits and pieces, then get the fitted by a local specialist or garage a few days before travelling up to have the remap. 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
You need to speak to your Andy about the induction kit if you order an RCM one.
The item with the 80mm MAF tube is a Bob Rawle thing. He likes them and gets better results with them so got RCM to make and sell them (as they use him for their ECUTEK mapping) Unfortunately the car will barely start with this on so unless you fit it at Andys place you will be struggling. The MAF needs re-scaling in the ECU before you can drive it really. If this is a problem, ypou will have to get the standard size kit (76mm IIRC) The filters are the same - frapping huge. if you buy the Samco intake hose to go with it, you will have to chop it right down and get the filter as close as possible to the MAF otherwise you will have tickover and stalling problems. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
Hmm. So buying the standard K&N induction kit will eliminate this problem? I was just going to go for the same kit as I got for the P1 (I didnt buy the samco with that either, just the stock item re-used)

My post was to point out the issues you could have with an RCM kit as recommended by Dan and Bro.
The standard K&N (57I) kit uses a smaller filter, with no rolled radius on the inner tube, is a lot cheaper, will not work as well as the RCM one (i *suspect* you will gain nothing over a standard airbox, possibly even a small loss) but you can just bolt the filter on and away you go for mapping. You can get the RCM kit without the intake hose and it will bolt straight on as well, but they are different on the new ages to the P1 as they come with a MAF tube. Just make sure you get the right size. The best option is to ask Andy if you can fit the kit at his place, then you can use the 80mm tube which will work the best. You know me well enough by now - - I cant get my head around people putting things on cars purely for noise reasons that don't improve things (or sometimes make things worse) than standard. IMHO if you are going to do things then they are worth doing properly or you best not bother at all, so if you are going to get an induction kit at this level, it is worth getting a decent set up in the hope it my actually do something worthwhile. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
To be clear, I did not recommend any induction kit. I just said that the RCM one looks cool.
Yes Mark, and you should know me well enough by now to realise that even if I get a drop in power output, I'll just claim its added 200bhp on top!!
I understand what you mean though, and will ask Andy what he thinks. Dont really want to see a drop in performance, given in reality or in figures. I just loved the flutter and induction noise of the P1 sucking in the air and spitting it out the back. Do you have a link to the exact kit I'd be needing? RCM seem to have a few on offer and I cant tell which is the right one Thanks for your help. (YET again! ) 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
Pedant! If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
Scutch - don't understand what you mean by which one you want? do you want the easy fit no hassle one or the one that will work the best?
If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
You won't get the same noises, a lot of that is to do with the front mount you had on a P1. an induction kit on it's own gives you sucking when you floot it, and a mini dump valve sound when you release at high RPM. The fluttering is the function of a FMIC really. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
Before I had the FMIC fitted I was running the car with the decat and induction kit off boost for a few days. It still made those fluttering noises. Obviously not to the same noise level, but certainly was evident, even before I had the FM fitted by Revolution. Also, I meant the RCM jobbie - the one Bob suggests - for the induction kit. Dont know which one it is. 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
This is the relatively hassle free item
http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/s ... ductID=419 If you want the 80mm MAF tube order these. http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/s ... ductID=421 http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/s ... ductID=365 http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/s ... ductID=211 The picture of the tube shown a non Maf item for a Motec etc....you need to specify you still have a MAF. You will need the hose as the tube is to big to fit the standard pipe... If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
Right, cool. All I need is those 3 items?
So when I phone them up I should specify that I still have a MAF sensor when ordering the trumpet and they should realise what I'm talking about. Even though I have no idea myself Me : Hello... I believe you have a package for me? RCM : Name? Me : ...I dont know! Nice pics, by the way, Bro. Any chance of purchasing your engine bay instead? 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
Yep, check with Andy first.
Ask for the 80mm trumpet that will take a MAF. if you say the same one that Mark Reynolds fitted to Stuart Hughes WR1 then you can't go wrong! I can do you an engine bay that looks like Bro's no problem... I fitted Bro's induction kit at home using a 76mm tube, drove to Bob's and put the 80mm one on there before mapping. RCM lent me a 76mm tube though which i am not sure they will do for everyone. Don't forget the jubilee clips as well. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
I've emailed Andy Forrest regarding fitment of the induction kit at his gaff, so will wait on his reply. Thanks for the information, muchly appreciated! I see Bro is running a fairly impressive FMIC, too. I dont want to go overboard on the modding side of things. Yet. Just want a nice sounding, performing well car. Regarding the induction kit, if I dont fit one, I'll just end up contemplating buying one and then I'll end up having to get the car mapped again to suit. So best to get it done at the same time I think. Wouldnt mind all those samco bits and pieces though We have around 1.5k to spend on mods. RCM exhaust system, induction kit and remap just passes that figure, so its all good. Do you know if the Whiteline ARB is the same excellent purchase like it was on the P1? 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
Dan, can you put a pic of your set up on here. I believe you have exactly the set up Scutch wants. bro's is a bit confusing cos he has a Samco inlet pipe as well.
Your induction kit is at the front left of the engine bay, it looks like a big chinamans hat with the end chopped off. NOTE: it is not in your glove box or in the boot before you ring and ask. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
Just noticed this post. Knocking noises due to what? Catching on the rear? Also, CAIK? Keh? Some form of induction kit obviously. 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)

I have only drove Bro's for any length of time and he has front and rear ARB's so i can't comment.
By all accounts they understeer at least as much as a P1 when standard, if you go by that then a rear ARB should improve things as it does on a P1 - but i can't speak from experience. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
CAIK - Cold air induction kit. probably a better all round bet than an iduction kit at this power level to be fair.
Bro has quite a few clunks and noises that he thinks is from his whiteline stuff. His mechanic nor i have not been able to fix it completely. He also has typical WR1 noisy suspension which could confuse the issue. On that note Has your new car had the shocks replaced at all? If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
So the CAIK I wouldnt need any of that RCM gibbonory? Simply bolt on and away we go to remap land?
You also have PM Mark 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
yes, all the noises you desperately crave from your induction kit are a bit muted with a CAIK though from within the cabin. APS is the kit to go for from DSA automotive or somewhere like that, although there is a group buy on APS kit going on at the minute on SN
If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
and now the APS makes its way to the table.
Crikey... I cant keep up. APS/RCM/CAIK. All with pro's and cons I imagine. The RCM cons being I need it fitted just prior to the map and could be fiddly. The CAIK being the noises are slightly muted and the APS being I have no idea of the price or if its better than the other two! Impreza world is so much fun! Never had this trouble with my Nova SR back in the day. Shove out on that thing. Even a sandstone wall* * that did actually kill it, to be fair. 2004 RB Renault Clio 182 (Coilovers running Mark Fish setup)
APS (Air product systems) are the manufacturers of the best known and most popular CAIK (cold air induction kit)

Yes, I knew this. Was just testing you to make sure I could trust your information...

I've been following this post with great interest as i'd like to go the same route as Scutch. As Andy Farmer is probably too far away from me has anyone had a re-map done way up here in the North and if so from whom?
Whats that dude? I am not currently pre-menstrual? If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
I will take a couple of pics later and post. I know what the induction kit is, thanks Mark, I was told after I had been using it as an ornament that it was something for my car
