Exhaust

Has anyone uprated their exhausts, if yes which ones, and which provide the better gains.
There can be only WR1!

Power wise they are all of a muchness.

Youi will get a very small gain from changing the BB, a tiny bit more from changing the centre section.

Really, the choice is down to looks/noise/cost.

Blitz NUR spec, aftterburner vortex are popular. Also scobyworld ninja,RCM, are all worth looking at.

Surely Milltek should be mentioned as most tuners seem to approve of it?

yes of course - my list is far from extensive merely off the top of my head.

Milltek is as fitted to powerstatrions T20 and T25 conversions

Magnex and Hayward&scott are two other well known ones, and of course HKS

Magnex are well made, UK systems at a good price. They do have a slight 'image' i suppose, but i have visited the factory in a work capacity and i can assure you there R&D, workshop, manufacturing technology, and quality are second to none.

For those bikers out there - its the same company as micron who also had a bit of a 'image' a few years ago but now do some cracking systems found on many top race bikes.

why don't you get one made??? You can then specify what you want it to do, what you want it to look like and what you want it made out of.

That's what I did and it gave my car a very unique sound. Mush more satisfying than an off the shelf system

Who made it Gangsta?

Its diifficult to f*ck power characteristics up with just a back box and centre as its a simple matter of picking some pipe between 2.5-3.5 inches and of the correct steel then making it as straight as you can.

A full system with a downpipe is a bit more involved, and you would be better off going with someone who knows what they are doing, and unless you are after something out of the normal scope of the engine (i.e you want a screamer pipe for a 750BHP drag scoob) then get one of the properly developed off the shelf items from a company mentioned above.

I assumed he was going for a full system ... for just a back box shelf would be fine and will save you dollars!! I kept the standard prodrive backbox - because it is the fecking nads and had a custom made titanium pipeset made by Prodrive through CR Racing.

I specified that I wanted lightweight with the best quality materials that would complement the car, the map and the whole ethos of the car. I wrote them a blank cheque and I was extremely pleased with the outcome.

My car had a very nice map performed so I wanted to ensure all the parts I had put on were the best of the best and would work alongside the map perfectly.

a titanium DP and centre made by prodrive.

How fecking much???

Titanium will give you a different sound, it resonates very differently to SS. Its a b*stard to work with and long term longevity is nowhere near that of a SS system as it is very prone to stress fractures and mounting brackets breaking etc.

Of course, in racing applications the wieght is the big advantage, but then we do replace titanium systems every few meets. Road races like the TT and NW200 you will not see any bikes with titanium headers on as more often than not they dont see the race out (bumps etc)

Nothing against a custom sytem done by someone who knows what they are at, but SS makes a better material for the road. MS even better if you can stop it rusting as its more pliant than SS and a lot lighter.

So you had your exhaust built to compliment the map?

Drive it like you stoll it - hay smurf

Think part of the exhaust on my car is magnex, the centre de-cat pipe. Gave a whole 4bhp & 1lbft gain when fitted. Rest is HKS. All seems to work well together.

Yeh definitely had everything on it to a level that complemented the map and the power I was pushing out. It wasn't the fastest WR1 but I am happy to stake money on the fact that it was the most reliable 380+bhp WR1 on the road. I mean that thing did 15 or so track days and was driven very very hard and didn't have a single issue that required massive amounts of work.

When I buy a car and decide to modify I do it properly or not at all!!

think you have my post wrong Gangsta! I dont have any intentions of falling out with you either before or after sunday.

Its got nothing to do with any racing past, im merely interested because......well im sad like that. can guarantee you that anything i posted was factual.

Im not dis-agreeing at all. 380 BHP is a nice figure (although i did think you were on the standard turbo)

When someone does something different to their car and gets results then my ears prick up afraid.

If any of the tone of that post has come across wrongly (apart from the bit where you are wrong i.e an exhaust complimenting a map) then i appologise as it was not meant to.

f you do have dyno sheets and are not happy about posting them, please pm them me if at all possible. They will not be mentioned here.

As said, no matter how much it costs if you are happy with the results then fair play

Gimme a kiss and calm down you big girl!

The prodrive system fitted to the WR1 is like an aftermarket exhaust anyway is it not? So the way i see it the only way to improve the exhaust would be to increase the bore to 3 inch or 3 1/2 inch. The prodrive one is 2 1/2, i think. I would want to keep the cat to pass emissions test but that means i would have to buy a 3 inch downpipe with racing cat to fit a 3 inch system. As in the current downpipe with racing would not mate with a 3 inch system being that it is 2 1/2 inch. Not sure this is all true but can anyone confirm it? Revelution do a 3 inch system from the downpipe back for a reasonable
