ported headers are now fitted

I had some of Harveys ported headers earlier this week. I'd recommend this to anyone with a WR1 or STI. The car feels noticeably torqiuer from 3,000 rpm onwards. It's similar to the effect you get on a cold misty morning, only more dramatic. The spool has improved a bit as well.

Did the sound of the engine change in any way ?

Will the car now need remapping? Had these fitted to Type R then managed to map an extra 30 ft/lbs Torque BHP stay about the same...

Torrekens, it hasn't lost the burble if that's what you mean - the headers are still unequal length. I recon the Prodrive rasp sounds even better with them on. I also replaced the centre section with a non-resonated TSL part which made it louder still.

I had them fitted at API (180 mile round trip). It cost just under

I have ported and fitted a couple of sets on P1's

Excellent with the o.e turbos - but you should be looking at tubulars for the other side of 350BHP

one of the chaps i did them for did a before and after RR run. achieved 1.0 bar 250 RPM sooner and gained 15 ft/lb with no other changes!

cant read to much into dyno runs a week or so apart but he says the improvement is noticeable.

They are easy to change yourself.

remove the undertray, undo the 4 nuts holding them to the cyl heads, remove the heat shields from around the manifold. then undo the 2 bolts holding them to the up pipe. then they are off.

If you are porting the up pipe as well, you will have to slacken the offside engine mount and just put a trolley jack under the engine to lift it an inch or so.

the standard headers have steel heat shields around anyway, so you are not really gaining much by wrapping them and its probably not worth the cost of the wrap. IMHO only worth wrapping when you change to tubulars.

I'm not planning to remap, unless they have upset the AFR too much. The effect wasn't instant when they were first fitted - I think the ECU had to learn they had been fitted. By the time I'd driven 90 miles back from API, all was good.

Cheers
