Engine rated to 'bhp' ??

Postby Super si » Wed Sep 04, 2013 1:17 pm

What's the wr1 engine rated to bhp wise? I think I saw someone say 380/400 on standard internals?? Or could of been what the turbo was good to
A lad a was talking to have his blob eye sti running 550bhp on standard internals, bigger turbo, front mount, injectors, remap, fuel pump & mixes fuel with meth
What are people running on here?
Cheers

i have been told (and read) that the standard engine internals will be good up to 400. Beyond that then parts need to be changed....

I would say 400bhp is just about right,as long as the mapping is done right and you have a front mounted intercooler.
Heaven can wait....I'm playing with my scooby.

any engine will potentially last for a period of time and bear in mind regardless of power very few road cars will be able to utilise that power for any meaningful time...................

have run a very early 94 WRX at over 400bhp (at customers discretion) and this lasted for around 2yrs, but more impressive was a customers 96STi RA rally car that was run for around 7seasons and refused to blow up even when pushed to over 1.85BAR.............he crashed it in the end and wrote it off with the engine still sweet :)

Not sure there is an official line here but there are always stories of those running silly power and surviving for ages and those running slightly over standard and having no end of problems. What defines who long the car will last is the quality of parts used, the skill of the mapper and the place that does the work. Personally knowing what I do now I wouldn't push the standard wr1 past 400bhp as doing so starts to get very expensive to do so with some reliability and over engineering to protect your investment. I would also recommend getting all work done in one place so that you dont have issues similar to my experiences where you get garages (who select their preferred mappers) blaming those mappers for any problems, then mappers blaming garages for the problems and leaving you stuck in the middle of any post upgrade issues. I have no doubts Roger Clark, Scoobyclinic and AS Performacne would see you right if seriously considering large power upgrades. I have had bad experiences with the smaller garages who don't supply the 'whole package' such as the parts and mapping as a package e.g. Autotecnica. However these specialists can be very good at the routine servicing and fitting of parts that they do day to day. I am sure everyone has their own good an bad experiences with other places so feel free to ask others for their advice :)

Hi mine has been running 428bhp for several years with no problems what so ever 8)

all the work i have had done was at RCM, I have been told 450 is the most for standard internals,

i wouldn't imagine Olly would send me out if he thought it wasn't safe
