More powerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I've been reading the threads on people's engine mods on here for a bit, and I find it all confusing, what with me being a young simpleton and all. Can somebody tell me in plain english what would be needed to give me about 350bhp and then maybe 400bhp? Can the standard engine/turbo cope for example? What sort of cost is involved? What else has to be done to the drivetrain to cope?

Cheers fellas...

Mine has a fully decatted exhaust, Induction Kit and remap - that gave me 347bhp and the same torque 8)

A lot would say that the induction kit in your set-up is a negative addition?

Well, I don't have a centre cat and have a Hayward & Scott silencer and it has an aftermarket panel air filter, so where do I go next? A remap?

400 bhp, rcm 400 turbo, 3" exhaust, headers, up-pipe, at least 650 injectors, fuel rails, fuel pressure regulator, 255 walbro, fmic, ind kit, remap !

anything I forgot !.... around £5k

I went recirc after the cone filter and FMIC. I thought the DV was spoiling the noise a little.

I would think long and hard about your final goal first. The wrong way to do it IMHO is bit by bit. It costs a lot more in the long run.

And choose astuner wisely, not area 52 or cpa

What sort of power can be achieved reliably? I'd be happy with 350bhp and the same torque, it's not exactly slow as it is. I guess the only limiting factor is ££££££'s!

Car will be perfectly reliable at 350bhp. They say the cars limits for the engine are at around 450bhp although there are always some people that run all day long above that and others that suffer just below that but the general rule of thumb is 450 is the safe power level.

350BHP:
3" Exhaust System Fully Decatted
Green Panel Filter
Remap e.g. Dynamix
NGK PFR 7B Spark Plugs

Should make around the 350bhp mark.

The VF35 is at its limit when you get to 340-350bhp so if you want to go the next level you will need a better turbo and then the price racks up.

400BHP:
3" Exhaust System Fully Decatted
GT Spec2 Headers (Heatwrapped or ceramic coated)
Flow matched up pipe.

***Doing the above mods will lose the scooby burble on full throttle and sound more like an angry wasp due to the headers being more or less equal length***

Turbo: MD321H
650cc Injectors
Perrin Induction Kit
Remap e.g. Dynamix
NGK PFR 7B Spark Plugs
Exidgy Uprated Clutch
That will be around 400bhp and great for the road.

If you are tracking the car or using it flat out all the time you would want a fmic which can cost around 400-500 through to up to 2000 depending on quality and size.

For reliability some people put in better oil pumps, fuel rails, fuel pressure regulators etc but they are not essential to get the power levels you are after.

As always with modding, if you do it bit by bit or on the cheap it will always cost you more in the long run.

:)

Just get a remapp by Duncan ( Racedynamix advertised on here at top) You already have the exhaust and better air filter. Mine has After burner back box, green panel air filter, and a remapp by Dunc for £350. Mine made 340bhp on the Dyno. Drives lovely and feels very quick of the line! :D
Dont forget that not all standard WR1s made 315bhp when new, some bhp readings vary alot, as much as 20 bhp in some cases. So every car is different!

Cheers for the help guys, I'm due the 60k service around October, so I plan on buying some braided hoses and an induction kit (worth it?) and having all the work done at once.

I'd love to have it dyno'd now, just to see what it makes as 'standard'. It certainly feels a hell of a lot faster than my old WRX PPP!

Hi Steve my Wr1 runs 428bhp never had any problems with it so far 10-12000 miles since the work was done, fast road use and one track day.

dynamix has got a good reputation with subarus so for maping i would speak to him, as for the main work do a lot of reading and try to stick with one tuner, good luck :D

Ayzman, Who done your build mate? Rough price? Good results and sounds well done as reliable. Cozzy

Dynamix did my mapping from standard through to the current state so can highly recommend him :)
