That sounds a rather high figure just for changing the exhaust and manifold. :suss:

yeh thats what i thought... but it says it in black and white... now i wanna know if anyone has that system on the car... it takes out the cats .. well basically its the entire system that gets replaced with a large diameter pipework... but it is made for the 265bhp sti.. what difference will it make on replacing prodrive exhaust on a 320bhp sti???
that is the question!! :)

removing the centre decat and downpipe on the WR1 does increase the power but not by the levels that you would see on a standard STi. Ususally a full decat renders somewhere between 25-35bhp increase. With an equal length manifold though an additional 60bhp would be easily attainable. You're looking at well over a grand though for the system before labour!

cool... well if you get 60bhp.. i reckon a grand is well worth it!!

it's around a grand just for the system. and that depends what you go for really. If you get an HKS manifold it's twice as expensive.

Secondly you need to think about the labour charges and then the remapping that would be required.

With that sort of money being spent, and that amount of power, would it not be a good idea to source a 2.5l short engine. I would have thought that quite a bit of money would have to be spent on the 2.0l to give that much power and have it reliable?

It would not be impossible to see a nice power gain like that on an otherwise standard STi by changing the complete exhaust system. The main reason for this (other than the exhaust flows more!) would be that without recalibrating the ECU the boost will be almost completely out of control. As more boost generally gives more power, at least until another limit defined by temperature, durability or pressure is reached, the figures can look really good. Right up to the point that the engine or turbo decides that it can't cope with an overboost to 1.75bar in the midrange or 1.5bar at 7000rpm and nowhere near enough fuel to stop the det...

As an example, we are running an engine on the dyno at the moment. One spec we ran was a complete 3" exhaust system on an otherwise std WR1 type engine. On the first run we had to abort the test as the boost started to get out of control at 4500 rpm to the extent that we ran the rest of the test with the wastegate solenoid at 0% duty, ie the wastegate was open as far as it would go. Boost was then completely out of control at 1.4bar to the limiter and the air leaving the turbo was at over 200C. EGT was similarly out of control as well. We've now had to take control of the fuel pressure as the std setup wasn't delivering anywhere near enough.

On the test track, this engine may have reached the rev limiter in 4th gear the first time, but would not have reached the rev limiter in 5th gear as it would just have detted itself to bits by then....

In the words of a character on an American cop show, "Let's be careful out there"
