I fitted an Afterburner backbox a while back and then changed the centre section for an Afterburner one. Where the centre section meets the cat pipe there is a slight blow as it doesn't line up 100% straight, so there isn't a tight seal.

The logical solution to this, I think, is to change the cat pipe for an Afterburner version. However, the car is pretty loud as it is and I'm not sure I want to annoy the neighbours any further

Has anyone done something similar, or got any better ideas?

It will make a massive difference mate, my de-catted P1 sound wise was like day and night ... It was a noise dream.

It will be about 10-15 db louder if you ask me and you will get more noise from the turbo etc....

Of course you will also need a remap if you are going down this route.

removing the cat is worth at least 10-20bhp aswell

I could be wrong here but...I'm not de-catting it as I am replacing the pipe that was already de-catted as part of the PPP (it will still have the downpipe which I think has a cat in place?)

In that case then mate you are fine.

you wont notice a difference at all sound wise as you have already replaced the resonated part lower down the system

There is only 1 cat on the WR1 and thats located further up near the turbo end, although the pipe you are looking to replace has the heat shield cat surround look to it, it doesnt actualy have a cat in it.

The "cat" is in the downpipe off the turbo.

Ah, I meant to reply to this after I had it done.

It didn't make the car louder, in fact it made it less 'boomy' and quieter at low revs but really brought out the distinctive burble and tightened the sound up nicely. Well worth doing
