De - Cat

Postby 500tie » Fri Aug 14, 2009 1:49 pm

Has anyone de-cat their car with the standard prodrive backbox, just wondering if it made a lot of difference or if im better off just changing the back box aswell.

Id rather keep the prodrove one though as i like the sound of it and its looks?

Not sure if anyone has, but Hayward an Scott do a 2.5 decat downpipe.

Know what you mean regarding the prodrive backbox, thats why i went for the aps system it looks the same ! 8)

How does the car sound with a set-up like this? Is it much louder?

I got a similar set up too - H&S system all the way with a de-cat...

it has a rolled inner edge on the back box so looks like the Prodrive effort but slightly larger - but only just.

Sounds a bit louder but nothing major. Vids are in garage section I think

when i first got my wr1 it had a 2.5" decat fitted to the standard wr1 exhaust and it sounded really nice.
was a bit louder but not loads, just a nice level of noise and a really deep, meaty burble 8)

If you do this, would it mean a remap?

Also, the CAT is there for a reason, how does it affect emmissions with the centre CAT removed? I'm thinking about the MOT.

Ok. Not sure if that's a possibility, am only planning to use either Subaru or Clive Atthowe in Norwich, who are probably straight down the line.

Well just take your old exhaust with you and include "new exhaust removal and re-fitting" in with the price of the MOT.

Job's a bad un

was a decat up-pipe part of the ppp on your car?
if not, which i don't think it was,you would really benefit from fitting a decatted up-pipe too while you're at it.a standard sti up-pipe would be perfect if you haven't already got one on the car.i wouldn't fit one until close to your remapping time though as that, combined with the decatted downpipe, will most probably make your car overboost

To be perfectly honest i don't know if it had a de-cat up pipe but ill look into it thanks for that steve.

I was going to get all the de-cat parts fitted and have it re-mapped at david hendrys on the same day. That way i should be able to maximise the performance gains.

Mine's de-catted all the way through (H&S Downpipe) to the standard Prodrive back box as I too like the style of it and aint a huge fan of the big 16" slash cut ones

Not much louder than standard on idle but it's pretty loud when you boot it and you hear the turbo spooling up more - it's just perfect in my opinion :)
