As for the brakes i disagree with you there. My WR1 has exactly the same braking characteristics as the RB320 which was bought with 8k miles on it. From cold they are not sharp and need a lot of force to use them effectively unlike other cars (dare i mention the ST or even a standard 1.2 clio). Once warmed up on the roads around here they were fine although if you used them in anger with heavy braking then that would lead to brake fade. The pedal would get spongy as the fluid boiled and they failed to cool properly and it all goes horribly wrong. No idea what pads i used to have but i assume it was the OEM ones on the RB given its age.

Lets just agree that you are wrong.

Well its a long story i guess but my ap brakes cost me more than anyone elses because Dan bless him put a notice up in for sale section - £1200 quid for AP brakes second hand on this site. I said are they in good nick... he checked them and said yep.. so i said right i will have them... got them shipped to my local subaru garage from tileys of bristol to get fit.

cost about 300 quid fitting as its a big job changing calipers apparently - just takes a long time... anyway they fit them to my car and they juddered like crazy under any braking. went on a run to bed them in - undriveable really bad - steering wheel would bounce left n right 45 degrees or so when braking. went back to subaru they said yep they were warped when we put them on and really badly rusted and corroded all over, hope you didnt pay a lot for them... haha... very funny, thanks for telling me before putting them on...

so i called tileys subaru of bristol (where they came from) and had a mini iraqi war between tileys subaru and kt green subaru to work out what was up with the discs. eventually i paid another 250 quid to get them off my car and i sent the kit back to tileys in the end for what i was told would be a full refund. That was in December... still havent had a full refund for them because the refunds girl at tileys is a dizzy cow who needs shooting in my mind bless her cotton socks...

so then i was stuck as subaru had thrown out my previous calipers and 600 quids worth of grooved discs and yellow stuff pads so i had to order some AP brakes quick.. my fault for not telling them to keep them so i couldnt really argue with them... scooby being my day to day car, cant rent a car for the next week whilst my cars sorted so thought f*ck it i will get some more AP brakes. Had a ring around, no where had any in stock eta 2-3weeks... the only place that had them in stock was RogerClarkMotorsport... so i bought fronts and backs from them for full rrp in the end as they wouldnt budge on price - low markups on them apparently.

Got them shipped direct overnight to kt green who fit them the next day.. since they were doing front and back i got a nice big 450 note bill for that little lot. since having new AP brakes the cars been fantastic with regards to braking - once they bedded in of course apart from the very high speed slight instability.

So to try and get a CHEAP set of AP brakes i ended up paying a f**king fortune for them. If anyone wants my advice - never buy second hand as its not worth the hassle but I dont want to jepordise this guys sale as his might be in "good nick"...

So there you go - long story summarised for you... back to the point at hand then... reason i didnt "shop around" was because i couldnt as no bugger had them in stock at the time...

That sucks Mega !

Can't believe they chucked your old brake stuff away, Dave who works there as Dan will tell you knows his stuff, would surely not have aloud this, as hew ould know the second hand value of them.
Personally I'd ask fo a second hand payment

More likely someone knew someone who wanted them !

As for paying someone to fit them, Powerstation fitted our fronts, it was only on inspection a few weeks later I noticed the caliper pins were out, they have never been out since, conclusion they never put them in !

Bad experience Martin!!

Buying 2nd hand is an emotive subject....

At the end of the day, they are worth what someone wants to pay for them.

Pops selling his RB320 ??

I always wondered how much difference the AP's still make compared to good discs and pads in the standard calipers.

The problem of the scoob (and Evo) have never been the lack of braking power, but the overheating of the brakes.
I fitted the Performance Friction discs, uprated pads, braided hoses and 5.1 liquid.
So far they kept up very well. And I have a bit of a reputation for regularly getting brakes to their limits.

A massive difference.

I'd just like to question the "I fitted"? Having seen you trying to take of mudflaps I'm fairly sure you couldn't change a standard household light bulb, let alone pads and disks on a toy car.

, point taken on the 'I fitted'. Grammatically probably not 100% correct, but sure better than what I heard you explaining in Dutch last time

So do uprated discs on a scoob still not allow to counter the fade? (The brakes on the scoob are less well cooled due to a lack of opernings in the front bumper)

Any uprated brake calliper will cool better than the Brembos as you wouldn't expect the unnecessary Brembo bulk to be applied to an after market calliper.

See you tonight mate, Andy is going to text when he's driving up the M1 in his new WR1, hope he makes it

He wants 20k for his RB and my ST is probably worth 8-10k... need to find 10k from somewhere and sell it!!

The worst thing about it is i looked round the rb320 and was going to buy it instead of the WR1. However the missus convinced me that as it was an extra 10k on top of a WR1 at the time that it wasnt double the car for the extra so we went with the WR1 and she got a conservatory using the money she "saved" (didnt know she would do this at the time!!).

After letting her dad have a go in my WR1 the week i got it he said he wanted one and went straight to where id looked round the RB320 and paid cash for it there n then. To run salt in the wound he said he preferred the look of the WR1 to the hawkeye but couldnt find one anywhere as John Mc Tiddler (Dogging Expert) had put his name on the next one that redline had got in stock.. So he got the car I wanted but couldnt really afford so i took some stick for it at the time the git!! :) Now he is selling it for more than i can afford just to spite me...

I can see where you come from when you say the RB320 might not be worth the extra money.

TBH, any Impreza I drove between 2003 and 2007, was very similar (although the 2.5 was really pants).
In the end, you get a similar base which you then modify into 'your car'.

They also age in the same way (well maintained 2004 WR1 doesn't look older than a 2 year old RB imho).

So why indeed pay 20K for an RB if you can pick up a WR1 for 11?

I'd be tempted to get an old scoob again but if I do, I'd probably try to find a box standard 2003 STi that is in good condition. They are cheaper than the limited editions and you can still turn it into anything you want.

i was considering getting a rb320, and with the price the wr1s are at now it is nearly half the price of a rb 320, and for me i dont think that it is twice the car. so at the moment think i am going to keep the wr1 just bought and fitted a carbon rear diffuser and got a ht autos front splitter not fitted it yet (as still not sure it will clear the munro speed bumps that we have where i live), new grills and a front end respray and a new PIAA driving lamp as had cracked lens. when i get home next time roof spoiler and get wheels done black. Also just got a new set of ferodo ds2500 pads (125 quid) i dont know if that is good or not. the carbon fibre b pillars, then wax and polish.
