funny sound from gear box...?

ive done almost 700miles this weekend in the wr1.... snowshill - exeter exeter - snowshill. on the way home i noticed a strange sound from the gear box, mostly when downshifting to 2nd it wines, and make a dry scrappy sound!! (this is not normal i know they wine a lil but this was loud) also when changing down into 2nd its not smooth and is a noisy change! also clunky.......its very strange and i cant pinpoint the problem....although sounds dry!!!! help please!!!!

Any oil under the car, check see if floorplan is coated with oil, notice any oil burning smells oil on exhaust an so on !

Other than that basic info which you've probably checked, take it to a subaru garage.

You should be able to reach the gearbox oil dipstick (beneath the TMIC) to check the level.

no oil leak....sound seems to have stoped....still guna get her looked at tho.
