Front Fog Lights

Postby Megaman » Wed May 07, 2008 12:21 pm

Just checking to see if this is right.

When I put the front fog lights on they only come on with full beam. Is this how it works for you guys too?

Just thinking when its foggy fullbeam is the last thing u want on, i normally have fogs on and dipped headlights if its foggy... what about anyone else?

cheers

RTFM!

They are not fog lights, they are driving lights. So they are working exactly as they should

FPMSL... RTFM - NO NO NO! That would make this forum, and others like it, redundant!

Try explaining to a miserable copper they are driving lights when you have been using them on a country lane... and forget to turn them off when you drive past him parked up... PMSL...

Because of his "interest" in the car I gave him a demo of the Blitz zorst at 6k revs when pulling away.

ROFL I cant believe you had to google RTFM!!!

As for being legal to drive with them - as long as you dip ya lights when they come the other way they should go out and all should be fine in theory...

Well i was told to turn driving lights off on a volvo sporty hire car a few years back because they were blinding people... i did as i was told and was on my way... didnt however boot it to 6k rpm as prior to being stopped i had just had a fast sprint on the countries and thought lucky he hadnt caught me speeding or anything... might have been going a couple of mph over the limit... ;)

you obviously didnt read the bit that said HIRE CAR. You dont always get to pick WHAT car you get just the CLASS (if you can call it that;) )...

This was the old version of the new quick one with a 1.8T engine in it.. went quite well.. looked like a wedge of cheese on the road - bit ugly too..

So whats your car history like then marky ? ;)

My car history?

Mainly fords in my youth and early twenties (MK5 Cortina's, MK2 escort RS200 etc) but i did have a Lotus sunbeam and built a Westfield as well. Then a new cavalier SRI 130 which was a decent(ish) car in its day i suppose.

Then i took up Bike racing (1991-1999) and could never afford a car (unless you include a tranny van and a Merc308 motorhome) until i was not spending all of my cash on it. I had no interest in cars at all anyway then. compared to bikes (especially when you are racing) then all cars are extremely boring.

Then the only 3 cars i have had since then are a V6 Vectra, a P1 impreza, and the A4 audi i have now. As i have said to you before, i'm not really a car lover - i like the technical aspects of engines and fiddling and building them but i am not an avid reader of all the mags and have knowledge of all thats going on. When i speak to Bro he knows far more about cars than i do, if not how they actually work.

You??

My cars to date in chronological order are:

950CC Fiat Uno - bog standard plain and simple transport from A to B

1.3Ltre Ford Escort - slow heavy car which i ran into the ground. Melted the oil cap to the engine with it using my Milton Keynes roundabout technique when i lived there.

1.6 Renault Megane Fidji - Quick car, loads of toys on it, cheapest fastes car i could afford to insure at the time. Took a lot of hammer and sold it when first gear deteriorated.

2.0ltre Ford Focus ST170 - Nice handling car but suffered from heatsoak from the engine so power was limited to cold days. It was a revvy car with a good interior and sound system for the money. Got a taste for speed with this car. Car also had around 30 design fault issues which really annoyed me so swapped for the new Focus which had these issues fixed. things like dash lights flickering constantly every 3 mins on a night etc.

2.5Ltre Ford Focus ST3 225 - My previous car, drives like a diesel with all its torque. Very good handling and very fun car. Worked with superchips to develop the first ST maps for their bluefin handsets. Progressed from this to full Graham Goode Racing conversion to ST300. Moved on from this to dreamscience handset and revised ggr map to add around 30bhp and oodles more top end power + gear change light. Problems with it - alloys buckle easily with speedbumps - i go over 200 a week. Driveshaft bent, brakes caught fire on track. Turbo down pipe needed replacing as flexi section gained a hole. Front right shocker leaked and needed changing.

2.0Ltre Subaru Impreza WR1 STI - The car I have now... It hasnt been the best maintained car in the past but I was under pressure to buy this particular one for its low mileage, 9 others waiting to buy. Having had the car about a month now the issues with it are as follows:
- noisy gearbox, sounds like its about to pack in on the slowdown section of the gears.
- rear struts knocking and also not working properly. car slumps down at the back when you stop at lights etc and creaks and groans. I think this is also causing a lot of understeer as the arse is very soft
- wipers need replacing new ones ordered
- two front tyres had split tyre walls and were bare - replaced these now with PZero's like the back..
- all 4 alloys scuffed - repainted now to a 8/10 condition
- 1 alloy buckled at the front and needs replacing
- boot rusting - subaru paint warranty doesnt cover it apparrently despite getting the book stamped - quoted 150 to respray boot!
- bumper dinted on one corner - quoted 450 to replace! eek!
- 3 discs warped - replaced all 4 with ebc turbo grooved, vented
- 4 pads at 90% wear - replaced with ebc yellow stuff pads
- Performance isnt consistant, seems to run at 3/4 power most of the time - feels like a 275bhp mapped focus for power. When full power does hit now and again - on the same days its slouched around at 3/4 power it feels 300-310bhp.

Wanting to mod but since the repair bills are costing a fortune right now i need to pay them all off before i start modding. Want to get coil overs, better sound system, more top end power. Loving the drive and cornering of the car though, top motor.
