I had the rear shocks checked for the mot and they were fine, not even a misting of oil. Hopefully it won't be them

Ive got Knocking from rear passenger side and was told it is probbly
rear droplinks gona get these done soon ! wot are the best ones to get if anyone knows ? The nocking isnt the shock as ive already got Ast suspension and have been given a check over a few months ago and the noise was nocking then !
Always try and get to B from A very Quickly !

Kev it could well be your rear suspension strut. We've all had them replaced, some even twice. There's a design flaw in the rear shocks & they don't last anywhere near as long they should it's a well know problem affecting all STI's & Wr1 rear shocks. When mine went it was the rear passenger side that started knocking first, more noticable at slow speeds & even more so if there was rear passengers.

Do you know if the previous owner had them replaced?

It's still on the original shocks as far as i know but has only done 18k miles. Both other previous owners are on this forum if they want to chip in

Mileage doesn't matter, it's the seals on them that go, think it was around that miles that mine started to go & by then a lot of folk had already had them done. They are inverted struts so the seals are at the top where dirt etc sits on them & perishes them.

If it's still on the original struts then i'd be pretty sure thats whats knocking

Kev do you have number 92 ?

If you do the shocks were replaced by Glen "bbigman" last year in late august early september !

Kev

I had our shocks done under warranty, and 200 miles later had exe-tc coilovers fitted, Glen brought them, pretty certain he fitted them to his "black sti" and had new shocks done under warranty on the WR1.

I may be wrong but Glen will comfirm !

Could be worth taking a look at the exhaust mounts.

Mine was rattling when accelerating from a start and it was the rear N/S exhaust mount catching on the bracket thet supports it. I just bent up the brkt to make clearance and noise was gone.

Also the exhaust runs fairly close to the diff, so check that side too. I could push the exhaust so it would bang on the diff housing but normally it clears ok.

By by the way, had whiteline ALK fitted at Mocom along with alignment and this has sharpened up the front end so can recommend it. It would be interesting to see what difference the spec C control arms, to get a bit more castor, and a quick rack would make, anybody tried this?
