AWD System Query

Postby Megaman » Fri Mar 07, 2008 9:41 am

Hello,

Could someone explain to me how the WR1 AWD system works as I am curios. I know some systems give power to the wheels that need it. Others are permanent 50%front 50% rear 4WD. Others are mainly RWD until required then shift power to the other wheels etc. Anyone any ideas out of curiosity?

Cheers

It's permanent 4WD.

The centre diff is electrically adjustable controlled by an ECU so that the power split can be anything from 33/66 to the front and rears if the grips good to 50/50 when it gets slippy. You can manually set the adjustment as well but by all accounts the ECU's pretty good so most leave it in auto mode.

Front and rear diffs are both limited slip too but I forget whether they're torsen type or mechanical plate type, torsen front and plate rear rings a bell.
