Some Summer Tyres

Postby dynamix » Mon Sep 17, 2007 7:58 am

Now I know Summer isnt here anymore but wanting some summer tyres for a spare set of wheels that will be used for Ring Trips.

The tyres need to have great grip and be suitably hard enough to cope with a ragging around the nordschleife for a few laps before going off. Coping with wet weather isnt really necessary.

Choices at the moment:

1) Michelin Pilot Cup Sports

2) Dunlop DZ02G (hard compound)

3) get another set fo Bridgestone RE070's

Unfortunately they are too soft for the ring on a heavy car like mine.

There was a tyre test in this months Evo mag.

8 different makes of tyres and the new F1 eagle came out best of the 8 for dry grip/ wet grip/ lateral g cornering grip.
It also i think put up the best lap time.

Never used them myself but it looked like quite a good test session they did...
The WR1oc still rocks...

What were the tyres tested ?

I am guessing they tested against Toyo Poxy's, LingLong ditchfinders etc?

I am not really after road tyres and F1's are not what i would choose to run on the ring in any way shape or form. Far too soft on the sidewall to give precise steering IMO.

Best track tyres got to be p zero corsers but they are quite soft too.
But they are by far and away the best tyres i've ever used...

I hear good things about the corsas

The f1's wouldnt even manage a full lap of the ring, you should have seen what happened to mine when they went on track on my wr1. never again!

Hi Duncan
How much can you get a set of yokos i could well be interested for the trackday in November ?
When we went to the ring last year i was using the 888's and found them pretty good and i put in a reasonable time for a first time around about 9min20 i think ! i kept them on for about 8k aftr the trip :!:  ive still got a bit of tread left on 2 of the tyres so i could get 2 new 888's for the front and put em back on !!!!!
Always try and get to B from A very Quickly !
