Kncoking in the boot

Postby duffnote » Tue Aug 14, 2007 9:12 am

I have a rather pathetic problem and would appreciate some advice. I have a knocking sound from the boot. No its not some victim of the Goodfellas - but I suspect the cardboard wheel cover panel flapping up and down. Anyone else had this problem and found an easy fix?

i'd say it was shocks too - sorry.

To check - open boot and sit up and down on the boot lip - you will hear the knocking there.

Deffo your shocks Geoff....dealer in baldock will do anything to get out of doing them

You may even get them to order the right parts 2nd or 3rd time

Make sure you get a pair replaced aswell..not singularly.

If you have not had the shocks done under warranty in the 3 years,
I don't know where you stand !
I suppose there is a case in being there is a common fault with the sti8,
a factory recall should have been done, or in the very least them stating we know there's a problem, if they go outside of warranty we will honour it .....but we know that ain't going to happen.

Got my shocks done over the phone, they never even took it for a test

Not my shocks, they were done last month, I'll try some rubber washers round the spare wheel cover. I've thought of removing the spare wheel too to lighten the load and get some of that spray/tyre repairer stuff I used when I had TVRs.

Hi mate are you sure as I have never heard a peep out of the rear shocks when I had it, if I had it would have been straight in for free replacements before the warrenty run out !!!

This should have been a recall

There have been so many 1's and sti8's that been done. All should have been done under a recall.

Is there any way you can tell if it's been done ?

I've asked Quinby's to confirm it has been done on mine, but would like to check myself if possible.

Yeh mate the Black sti is much worse than the WR1 the wr1 only has a very very slight knock on the passenger rear, safe to say they will need doin at some point but a long way off at the moment !

That said, I should really check the wheel well for anything loose :)

Was meaning to ask you how I get in there actually with all the sound equipment in there lol

Hi,
just had the rears replaced on my WR1 under warranty too - has made a big difference to the drivability already, and apparently my rears weren't 'too bad' either.

Is this a common problem??

Should the replacements last any longer than the originals or will i have the same problem again? - my WR1 has only done 12k miles now and i dont want to keep getting these replaced all the time!

Cheers.

Big fault on STi'8 some have had a couple of sets.

Perhaps the best option would be coilovers next time round if the warrenty is out, possibly cheaper aswell and defo better handling woth the right geometry set-up

Thanks Dipsey, can you let me know how you get on?

Edit to add no noise under power, just when changing gear, backing off, coming onto power if that makes sense?

Much apreciated :D
