Sealing the Two halfs of the Engine Block

Postby stevepinker1 » Sat Aug 11, 2007 10:01 am

My little brother is re-building a Classic wrx and keeps having problems sealing the two halves of the engine block, and the engine hence leaks like a sieve. He is currently trying to use silicon between the surfaces, is there a better method? any help would be gratefull

Sorry about the delay in replying (i assume you are done now) but not seen this before.

Use a proper silicone sealant designed for the application. Three bond 1215 is the best stuff. If you are trying to use blue hylomar or the like then you asking for trouble.

You only need a very thin bead (1-2mm) of 1215 and that will squash out in the c/case halves nicely.
