95 ron fuel

Postby flett_66 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 8:09 pm

Just purchased a WR1 with 10K on the clock with 1 previous owner, great car. Only concern is i can only get 95 ron fuel where i am. Been using miller oils octane booster. is this sufficient to prevent damaging the engine etc?

cheers

I'm sure I read that every car sold in the UK has to run on standard 95 fuel. You sholud be ok if your using booster - the ECU should adjust the ignition timing to compensate for a slightly lower octane, although this will mean you will loose some power.

Have you tried Nitrous Formular octane booster? I've never used it, but it's supposed to be good stuff and cheaper than Millers.

Have heard that Millers causes a build up of orange "gunk" on injectors or something to do with fuelling system (I think) if used too often.

Try the NF I use that and have done for the past 2years,you add half a bottle which will bring you up to 98 octane.
RCM will send you that mail order,01455 828610,ask for Simon.

Millers is actually cheaper than NF but you use a lot more of it - a bottle per tank as opposed to 1/3 - 1/2 of NF

As Spike says, running it long term is not the greatest think for spark plugs (they go orange and don't last as long) but i have not heard of specific instances of clogging injectors.

Your car will run ok on 95 Ron but it will be 15-20 BHP down on 98.
