Ohlins suspension.

Postby chris » Mon Dec 27, 2004 10:53 pm

Is Ohlins suspension considered to be the best to put on the car? I know it's on the plus pack but is there another make to think about?

Oh, and any idea of costs?

Best suspension, hmmmm. Well depends I guess.

Reading the WR1 plus thread from earlier in the year (bottom of the page from this one) it appears that the Ohlin is an electrically adjusted set from the dash, ie sport to comfort at the twist of a knob on the dash, all for

Chris ... The Ohlins suspension set-up in question is what Koeneggsegg use on the CCR supercar. IMHO Ohlins are probably one of the top marques in suspension. Taking a look at the Biker scene Ohlins are basically what every rider would love to fit to his/her bike. For the WR1 the setup means you can firm the ride up to near like Go-Kart standard - the cornering is absolutely sensational. For track use you would struggle to find anything that matches it's quality.

However if you are not going to use the car on track and do not put the road mileage on it then this set-up is complete overkill and would be 4k NOT well spent.

I am waiting on whether I can afford the Ohlins in March 05 - if I can then on it goes!

Chris - No problem, just my opinion of course, YMMV.

Gangsta - Was I right, are these dash adjustable? Sure you will post a feedback report when, oh sorry if....., you do buy them.

Chelspeed ... I believe they are dash adjustable. Very very very very much want a set but 4k is the barrier - a lot of cash for something I won't be using that regularly. If I was doing a track day every month I could justify the expenditure.

Now turns out that Nitron are building the Scoobysport shocks for the new owners. From

Suspension

Postby Xtreme Scoobies » Fri Mar 04, 2005 3:03 pm

There are loads of makes out there & whilst Ohlins are exceptionally well made, the price is astranomical for a road car.

Obviously. Ohlins is Swedish, just like Koenigsegg.

I've heard from a Prodrive test driver that the Ohlins indeed allow you to firm up the ride or make it more comfortable. But IMHO, the current compromise is perfect (if you want more comfort, buy a Jag !)

What I'd like is a set of dampers I can adapt the handling with (more over or understeer etc). I'm still looking.

For more oversteer like driving I think you'd be better off with an adjustable rear anti roll bar rather than adjustable shocks which would primarily stiffen ride and reduce roll at both ends.

Whiteline do adjustable rear bars. It's a direct replacement but significantly thicker in diameter. It then has four alternative mounting holes for the droplinks. The softest setting (furthest back hole) then makes the bar effectively as stiff as the standard bar then you can stiffen it in three stages for more and more oversteerey behaviour.

Talk to Powerstation in Tewkesbury for a better explanation.
