The same thing has happened to mine Martin, took them off recently now the winter is just about over only to find the metal clips rusting. It seemed that only the clips themselves were an issue with mine, I will be having a much closer look at the weekend again. You really would have thought they would have specified plastic ones with all the sh1t that gets trapped behind the flap. You would expect better quality for the price as well

Only a Spike could come up with that comment They may look alloy but they are steel, but it would'nt make any difference if they were alloy they would still do the same !

RUST is a 'slang' term for oxidisation. Aluminium oxidises nearly as easily as steel (depending on alloying elements) but it manifests itself in white deposits and fur. Aluminium in contact with untreated steel is a perfect recipe for oxidisation. The Scott Lowe brackets oxidise llike Billy ho, hence why i powdercoated mine. This also has the effect of protecting steel it is contact with.

On the contrary, the post is for you. You quite clearly stated Aluminium does not rust - and in a rather derogatory way towards other members - hence i thought it pertinent to point out that it does to you. The fact that you point out you know it rusts in your very next post clearly shows you were a) lying in the second post or b) having a needless go at other people in your first post who you assume are less knowledgeable on these matters than Bob the proper builder AKA Spike.
