just noticed it last night, has done it twice today on cold start and then after being left for an hour on start . clears then is ok have tried the boot it and let off down a hill and it doesnt do it then only on start up car has only coverred 15k and has always has oil changed every 3k full scooby history i am having service and warranty check in a months time before warranty runs out dont suppose it is anything silly or is it serious

white smoke can the ecu be reset by diconnecting the battery for an hour or removing the fuse like in me old scooby

Pull out the dip stick - is there any signs of white sludge in the oil?

no nothing at all thats what i thought could it be lambda sensor on checking the oil i did notice it was slightly over the max level ( not by me but by previous owner ) but it has never never done it before is there a cold start valve on these as my old rs used to do this and it was that

Our smokes as well but always as done and does not use any oil between services, probably just the damp collected in the exhaust back box ! But what do i know ..............Mark may elaborate more so !

I experience the same thing whenever I wash my exhaust and accidently get a small amount of water in the backbox, it certainly gives off some serious fumes on initial start up, so I would imagine any damp collecting in the back box would do the same, but again I'm not qualified to carry out any muppeting of threads

ok i think i have found the problem , the air pipe that lives underside of the intercooler had come off , its the one that leads to the two black pipes that run parallel to the intercooler, reconnected it and it still smoked , then restarted a few more times and it has stopped and gone back to normal . phew was cacking myself there . can i take it the ecu may take a few starts before it know the problem has been rectified ?

Yes the ecu should reset itself after three starts as long as the problem has been rectified.

Yes the ecu should reset itself after three starts as long as the problem has been rectified.
Shame it dont sort its self out faster after a flat battery. Takes about 3 or 4 times till she stop stalling at the lights but fuel economy goes out the window for upto a 1000 miles

After the batt goes flat and its recharged it messes with the ECU and it takes a little time to sort its self out again. I used to get around 280miles from a tank of juice. But its only doing around 200 at the mo. Subaru said if it no better after 1000miles. Take it in to a dealer and they will have to plug her in to the computer. Shame we dont have a subaru dealer any more...

Sounds like you live in a remote location mate? Mind you Scooby dealers aren't that common, and most really don't deserve to have the franchise anyway.

We used to have a dealer right on our door step. But that went bust just after we got our 1 first service out the way So servicing has been a right pain in the arse. We have had to use a local garages, as the nearest subaru dealer is an 80mile round trip. We rung Subaru and asked them to tell us were to take the car as not to wreck the warranty. They did'nt even bother to ring us back

80 mile round trip Double that Gaz and add another 20 and that how far I have to go Although a there is a dealer 10 miles away, but dont appreciate car supermarket dents
