Servicing (low mileage)

I recently bought my 1 with only 3500miles on the clock. It is now over two years old and has only had the initial 1000mile service. It has now done 5000 miles, as I understand it in the service book, it should have had a 12 month and a 24 month service i.e a 10,000 and 20,000 mile service??!!

I have spoken to Heritage of Leicester my local dealer who suggests that I have a 20,000 mile/24 month service at a cost of

Thats is the dearest 20k service I've ever heard of

The 30k service is the expensive one, but even then I think

THey must be planning on changing the oil and filter several times oves to catch up!

I'd get on to Subaru UK to see if you still have a warrenty before you have a problem.

sounds WAY too expensive.

I'd find out what services it's really had, and what you really need.

Speak to another dealer

All service departments are closed until the new year now so struggling to get an answer from other dealers at the moment.

The way I see it from the service book, it has only missed one service, its 12 month service which should have been carried out in May this year 12 months after its first 1000 mile service. The 24 month service would then have been due in May 2007. As it has now done 5000 miles since its first 1000 mile service, a service of some sort is due now.

The way I read it from the service book, 1's require servicing every 5000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. If I get the 24 month done now and stamped, when I have done a further 5000 miles and therefore 10,000 miles in total, the book would indicate a 10,000 mile main service rather than an intermediate oil change that would actually be required?
:bang:

In affect you require a mid-service(5k) for the miles you have done !
but also the car is 18/24 months old so for arguments sake get the dealer to do the 12 month service aswell, and ask nicely if they will stamp the service book in the appropiate places, so you have no missed services.
Then in May 07 do the 24 month service and get the mid-service stamp aswell........if the dealer will do so :?

The problem you've got is your "1" has only done (luckily) 3,500 miles and the car is 2 years old, hence why it is getting a little tricky with the service you need.

I had a similar problem when I bought my "1" this April....when mine one had done just under 10k......The service book was stamped up to "10,000 miles or 12 months" box. However my "1" was 2 years old then.....so techincally I should have had the "15,000" service done, and that the "20,000 miles or 24 months was also due!! I sort of gathered that the mileage was irrelevant if the time had been done ie 12 months, 24 months etc.... :suss:

I rang Subaru Int, Warranty Dept - they advised i should get the 20k service done since the car was 24 months even though it had not done 20k! I took mine to Adams Bros in Aylesbury, Bucks and they did the 20k service and also kindly stamped the 15,000 miles service box to bring the book up to date :ok:

The 20k service cost me

I also had the PIAA wipers on the scoob.

Bro has them now, no idea if he already replaced the blades, but indeed the best.

PS: Stuart, don't listen to those who say you can't replace the blades (6 quid each I think). Spike said that too until he cleaned my windscreen on our roadtrip and suddenly found himself standing there with wiperblade in his hands

Heritage Subaru are the biggest bunch of inept Tossers around, I really could tell you some stories

Resarch garage in Nuneaton are pretty good if you insist on taking it to a Subaru dealers.

I have booked it in with Chandlers Subaru at Belton near Grantham, they couldn't believe the quote from Heritage and did say that they had also heard bad things about them

Thanks for the suggestion, I will see what service I get from Chandlers, they seem pretty friendly and customer orientated which makes a change. :)
