Coolant Temperature

Postby WR 1mposter » Wed May 31, 2006 10:41 pm

Does any body know the running coolant temperature?

While out driving this evening the temp was averaging 88 degrees C
according to the psi3 monitor fitted !
Was keeping an eye on it after fitting Samco's
But for some reason it dropped to 72
and then steadily went back to the normal 88

Pulled over and left idling for a while but did'nt happen again,
and stayed on normal on the way home :?

Temps sound about right, would not worry but still keep an eye on it.

Could be something simple like fan cutting in a bit early. IIRC the thermostat in mine is 82 deg so could have just been that opening up as well.

I too have a PSI 3 fitted and find that the 'normal' running temperature is in the range 82 - 85 Degrees C.

If I subject the car to some 'hard' acceleration, to overtake for example, the coolant temperature often dips to around 70 - 74 Degrees C. This is because the 'rapid' change of road speed and therefore airflow 'through' the radiator, reduces the coolant temperature before the extra heat instantaneously generated in the engine can be transfered to the cooling circuit......due to thermal inertia!

Basically......I don't think you have a problem! :)
Sold out and bought an EVO......then sold it because it was rubbish!
