help needed please...

Postby Gazman2054 » Tue Apr 04, 2006 12:57 pm

Now then people,
I wonder if you can all get together to help me to help you maybe in the future.
My WR1 was in a crash on the rear wheel which pushed the propshaft into the rear diff.
I have had a new diff put on the car but its a bag of sh*t...
When you take your car to garage for a service
ask them to check your diff size it can only be 1 of 2 types and will only take approx 5mins to manualy check.
I need to know if its a 3.545 or 3.900
My WR1 brochure says its a 3.900
but subarus data base says it should be a 3.545
I just need to know whats on your cars
as i think the garage i used may have chucked a 3.900 away and tryed to refit a 3.545
All i know is that my pride a joy drives like a bag of crap

I've sent Mike wood an email at prodrive.
I think all the subaru dealers will have the same cd disk that has our partlists on it.
So they should all say that it should be a 3.545
But i have a strange feeling this is wrong going on my car now...
The euro cars have the 3.545
The auzzy cars have the 3.900
Problem is nobody knows were the stock of 500 cars we call the WR1 came from.
The light blue colour was never ment for the uk.
Only aus, usa and europe not including the uk.
Aus, usa & european cars are just normal STI's.
The uk cars are the only ones called the petter solberg WR1...

i'll find the manual and let you know if they differ from uk

if they do differ would the speed/rev configuaration also be different
ie 60mph in 6th ? revs, I'll check this also :?

The reduction of the diff shouldn't make the car drive badly.

It will be a tad slower on acceleration.

Sure nothing else is broke ?

The diff is the right 1 (should be 3.545)
So you should be ok.
My car is still a bag of shit.
The guy at the garage were she was being fixed has left and he was the only subaru mechanic.
So now i have to find another garage and sort it all out again with my insureance company (this has been ongoing from sept last year).
Im now getting bored of trying to sort her out
The WR1oc still rocks...
Even if i do drive a Smart car!...

Front and rear diffs dont seam to work as one.
In auto she drives as any WR1 i've been in.
But in manual as the diffs wind up they make some loud banging noises around 2500 - 3500revs.
Its that bad you can feel the car jolt when it makes the banging noise.
The steering is also like a guided missle in manual, all she wants to do is drive in a straight line.
I have to fight the car around the bends.
I took Mike c out and let him drive her and he could not belive how bad it was.

When you get yours fitted just ask them if the diff is a (suretrak diff) or a (manual diff)???
Brochure says we should have suretrak diffs back and front but i dont think this is right cos we have a rear diff temp gauge on the dash (which is for a manual rear diff apparently?)

Why are you having a new diff fitted???

Yours sounds a little scary, whereas mine seems to drive ok although there is a strange click and there seems to be some slack somewhere in the transmission when you change direction (forwards/reverse) or if you lift off and then accelerate again.

Having inspected the car the garage are propsing to replace the diff as opposed to stripping the existing one, which assuming they fit the right one will hopefully be an end to the issue.

I wish they has stripped mine, Then rebuilt it.
Then i would know the diff was ok.
Then i could start to find the real problem with the car.
I think its got some thing to do with the center diff myself...

Surly you just have to put the car on a rolling road to check the diffs match..When I was at Scoobyclinic I had differant diffs fitted 4.44's but changed to 3.9 because of the 6 speed. They put it on the RR and checked the same drive was going to the back and front...They have two graphs with yellow bars you can see the speed going to front and rear these should be the same.

Thanks for that :thumb:
That could the best idea yet.
We dont have a subaru dealer in hull now.
So im just wating to find out what the insurance company
want me to do.
I think the rear diffs ok but the RR should show up if the center diffs not working properly.
Just dont know if they would be willing to pay for a RR session.
What did it cost you :?: :?: :?:
Thanks again :thumb:

If your entering a roundabout or on a roundabout you are responsable for everybody around you as they are for you apparently and all crashes are deemed 50/50 so i've been told by a guy from an insurance company.
Which i think is a load of bollocks in my eyes.
Looking back i just wish someone had see her hit me and stopped...

I was hit last year on a roudabout, by the rear door, the bloke said at the time it was his fault, but since insurance have been involved he has not responded to any of his own insurance's letters!
Hence our like for like "Bristol&London" who we used because of our non-fault are now taking him/them to court. At no time has anyone stated the above.....Are you sure your insurance are operating in your best interest, or just anything for a easy life for them, less paperwork etc !
