Postby rally_driver » Tue Feb 21, 2006 10:54 pm

Just about to purchase my first WR1 but there`s very few Shell garages locally! What`s the best thing to use in an emergency & what effect will it have on my pride & joy? Any advice is much appreciated !! :D

I am not sure if it's reached you yet, but have you got Tesco 99ron in your area?

You can probably put diesel in yours and it will still run faster than a WR1

Did any of you guys see the petrol test in Banzai
It was done by Feild Motosport,
The test engine was a Cosworth YB with eight green injectors
and a roller bearing T4 turbo, readings wer taken at a constant
6500 rpm, 2.0bar boost, ignition value of 13degrees advance
before increasing until dtonation occurred

supermarket unleaded 95ron (could not reach 13degrees)516bhp/417lbft

tesco 99ron (13degrees 521/421) at 13.75 degrees 523bhp/423lbft

bp ultimate 97ron (13degrees 530/428) at 15degrees 537bhp/434lbft

optimax 98 ron (13 degrees537/434)at 16 degrees 547bhp/442lbft

these are the maximum figures achieved with ignition advanced until
detonation..........

Was going to mention this but you got there 1st

IMHO BP ultimate is SH*TE It costs more than Optimax(up here it is, not sure down South) You get far less mpg & car dosn't seem to pick up as well.

In case of emergancy i use Super & add some NF race formula OB(+6ron Millars only +2ron).

They are interesting figures.

On other Scooby sites people with knocklinks rate Optimax as good or just better than Tesco 99 RON.

BP's stuff doesn't seem to agree with their cars.

My car seems to love Tesco's feul fella, seriously. Although I have been advised that it has no detergent additive to clean the injectors etc so a tank of BP Ultimate (which does) is a good idea every 3/4 fill ups.

Tescos at York dont even know anything about it,

And to make things worse we are losing one of the two shell stations

At least that will leave you with one!

I worked out i'd use around 3 gallons on fuel to get to by nearest shell garage and back when i had my WR1.
