GEOMETRY SETTINGS PLEASE ANYONE?

Postby swiss tone » Mon Jan 06, 2014 2:07 pm

HNY all!

With having time on my hands over Christmas, I decided to get a 4 wheel alignment done and Bush in Hull has a lazer machine that I'm told is pretty sh*t hot.

I noticed a post on here that gives a service bulletin for the Wr1 (3-3A-012)

I took this in with me but the guy said no need as the machine is updated automatically and not to worry!

I'll post the print out next that they did 'was' and 'now' but I think it's not right and notice the vehicle at the top says 08/09 Sti!
I don't think the machine recognises the WR1 and probably will only find a 2004 Sti if I go back.

My question is, can I use the standatd 2004 STi geometry settings for my one? I am not sure if they can use the service bulletin settings and do it manually?

Any help please? (I also think the lower front lip spoiler had hit the ramp with being so low as it is scraped underneath! anyone else have this problem?)

I think the WR1 has a different set-up to the normal STI - or its dropped by 25mm. Had mine parked up next to an STI last week and the WR1 sat quiet a bit lower. As to if the remainder of the geometry settings remain the same I'm not sure. I think the bump stops were are different on the WR1 (although again that my not impact). I've recently put a carbon front splitter on mine. Sits very low. Looks the dogs but I now have to pick my way home on a route to avoid the sleeping policemen. Caught it on the small drop from my drive (have to now park it forwards facing the house) for the first time. I'm going to get some carbon wrap tape to stick on the lower edge to give it some kind of scuff protection. Just have to remember that its there when parking. Dont get me wrong it really sets the car off well but I'm sure one day I will forget about it.

Getting the alignment done can make a massive difference. I had it done on both of my WR1's. First one could almost change lane without touching the wheel.

Your print out shows the car to be year 08-09 which is a hatch not the WR1, note the caster angle which is miles away from WR1 on std suspension, which is about 3.5deg iirc.

here's a link re alignment, look for more tho.

Look for Mike Wood post, he was the Prodrive engineer who brought the WR1 to the market and gave all the advice to new owners, including 4 whell alignment settings.

Unfortunately, the Mike Wood link to the geometry settings doesn't work.

Can anyone please supply them. Really don't know what the car should be set up to if the machine cannot find our model? :?:

I told you in a previous post these cars need setting up properly by a proper garage, your print out represents an 08 - 09 car. Was the technician a :tosser: I'm sure you have an 04 plate sir, but F*ck it we will dial in some 08-09 settings just for good measure...... What a :cuckoo: :cuckoo:

Firstly get your money back, secondly where are you based? Third, you may need to travel to have this done properly.

Trust me, I had similar problems with settings for this car, found a company who specialises and takes time to adjust.

They can dial adjustments to suit driving style etc.

Cheers guys,

Gary, yes the technician must be a complete :tosser: I've rang them up to complain about using the wrong car! and they are going to have another go on Sat! I have the service bulletin settings from the other post and going to try and get them to set it up to this. Fingers crossed they are capable of doing it manually and not let the machine do all the work!

Their Toe figures are in 'mm' and the service bulletin ar in degrees and minutes so i hope they are capable of realising there is a difference in how it is measured! we will see.

I'm in Hull. If I arn't satisfied then a trip to Nottingham 'powerstation' may be on the cards then!

I just want a standard set up really as prodrive intended :)

To be honest Swiss tone if they can't get it right using machine settings and using wrong info from another car, I would be very reluctant to let them input data and adjust manually . Either way if they can't get it right in the first place I wouldn't use them again. The car is not very forgiving if the wrong settings are used.... Mine was a complete arse to drive, especially cornering etc. The choice is yours. Hope it gets sorted.

Cheers Gary, I need to tread carefully then don't I. Not sure where I stand about getting a refund.

I'll lay it down thick and see what feedback I get to decide the best action on Sat!

I will let you all know how I get on and if I do get sorted, I'll post the new printout settings. Least I have the service bulletin settings so can campare! To be honest it drives ok but I just want piece of mind to know the settings are as the bulletin from Prodrive. I know a lot of people go for fast road settings and put more camber and a little more toe in but I don't wan he extra tyre wear that goes with that!

Cheers, Tony

Tamsy,

Are your settings a fast road set up then as you are quite a bit more toe and camber than recommended arn't you.

What sort of tyre wear do you get with that? does it wear evenly.

Interestinmg seeing what other people are set to though!
