NEW REAR SHOCKS

Postby swiss tone » Tue Dec 03, 2013 1:49 pm

Hi all,

Just ordered a pair of new Rear KYB Ultra SR shocks. They certainly look pretty in the gold colour! Can't say mine knock but one has an annoying squeak so just decided to get a pair of spangly new ones.

Will post later what I think of them when fitted.

Just for info, the part numbers where 321004 and 321005 but will let you know if these fit ok! These should fit the 'GDB' that is in your chassis number.

Anyone know if they are hard to fit or any pitfalls? I assume need a spring compressor. Might get my local garage to do it anyway.

Cheers

Quite easy to do, but add some camber bolts, you can have some fast road settings dialed in. Don't forget to have the geometry reset, camber bolts or not.

You will need some spring compressors.

Thanks Gary,

Decided the weather looks too bleak to do myself now so going to get a local garage to fit. I assume they with set the geometry?

Will let you know what I think when done.

I use a specialist for geometry settings, don't trust my local guys with the set up. Apparently the Subaru settings must be spot on as the car is not very forgiving if marginally wrong?

You will feel a big difference with the new shocks and set up. Keep us posted.....

New shocks fitted today, £40 each side which was very reasonable. Unfortunately the camber looks wrong to me and dont think they had the gear to do a proper set up so booked in for a 4 wheel laser alignment called optiflex at bushbtyres if anyone heard of it?

Anyone have experience setting the camber a little more or do I just go for the standard set up? Going to cost near the same as fitting the shocks, robbers!

Update:

Had new shocks on for a few months now and no problems.

I think the creak noise from rear left might be the ARB drob link. I've just ordered part number 20470SA011 that was listed for the Forester but told same on the one? Will see if thats corrects then and if it sorts the annoying creak! :?:

Hello Swiss tone, how the shocks doing? I've just purchased a set of these same part numbers as you have given.
I've paid 177 delivered next day brand new in the boxes. I think this is a good price?

Hi DW, yeah no problems with the shocks, still got an annoying creak though but that isn't from the shocks!

£177 ea is a great price isn't it considering the originals are around £300 ea! an't really justify the cost of coilovers. Each to their own I guess!
