Why is there always something?

Postby Steveyk » Fri Jul 27, 2012 6:38 pm

The mrs and I are off to devon tomorrow for the week, so naturally I've cleaned, polished and waxed the 1 in readiness. While checking the fluids I noticed the alternator belt is shredded, and I mean ruined! Not sure how it's hung on this long! Don't fancy risking it so it looks like a trip to Halfrauds and some skinned knuckles tomorrow...

Anybody ever changed one?

very easy to do steve, find a local motor factors before halfrauds.
you will need a 10mm and 12mm sockets, take the plastic cover off 2x10mm one nut one bolt, then loosen the 12mm bolts either end of the alt, one pivot the other on the adjuster, then undo the adjuster which faces upwards, the alt will then move down so you can remove whats left of the belt.
when refitting make sure you can just turn the belt sideways to a 90 degree angle, that means the tension is good.
double check that the bolts are tight.
hope that helps adam
