So what fuel then?

Postby Steveyk » Mon Mar 26, 2012 8:27 pm

Has anybody ever noticed that on the WR1 Prodrive certificate it says:

1.Fuel
We recommend you continue to use 97 RON Super Unleaded

so why does the fuel filler flap say 98?

What difference would BP Ultimate (97) make to V-Power and Tesco (99)?

Think it might be that when the WR1's arrived at the docks then got sent to Prodrive and mapped with the PPP, it came out at 97 RON as that was the highest octane super unleaded fuel available in the UK.. Might be wrong but that is my understanding.

ah. I didn't think V-Power was available in 2004. So will 97 RON upset anything? I was cacking myself in the Lakes cos the only Shell station is at Kendal...

You are correct, V Power was not available in 2004 but V Power is only a marketing strategy, 97 RON was around in various guises by different fuel companies as "Super Unleaded" You should be OK with most reputable suppliers who turn over a good supply of fresh fuel.

I drive past a BP garage and keep going for 15 miles to get V power, but my preference would be Tesco super - IMO the 1 runs smoothest on this, followed by V power with BP only being used as a last resort!

Just need a tesco garage around the corner ;)

Used Total super once - the 1 hated it, same happened with my Bugeye as well...

Well, I have used 99 regularly but it seems to give me problems under high boost. V-Power is fine. Don't think I've ever tried Ultimate in the 1 though.

Is your air filter good? I changed mine to a drop in pipercross, and things are better up the top of the revs :)

Standard filter, I get a jolt under high boost - 4th gear say, full throttle at 3k rpm and the CEL comes on. Only happens with Tesco petrol, never with V-Power...

Odd one - fuel related then eh :?

Try a tank of BP super, would be interested to hear how that goes... My old bug and my Vtecs all ran best on BP super, the 1 hates the stuff lol! more fussy than my misses hahahaha!

I believe that before v-power it was optimax.

When the wr1 came out in 2004 there was no v power it was called optimax as mentioned above by John. Optimax was 98 ron and then went up to 99 with v power. Super most places is 97 but a couple are 98.
Bp ultimate is horrible stuff in my opinion, car doesn't like it and you get half the mileage. Last time i had a tank of it (years ago) i took my folks from Inverness to Perth 120 miles and taking it very easy as folks don't like speed and i used over 3/4 of a tank!!!!! With v power i can fly down same road and only use half a tank.
Also might just be a coincidence but my mate filled his skyline with bp ultimate as he couldn't get his usual v power and within 50 miles knocklink lit like a xmas tree and engine went bang. None of us will touch ultimate now.

I use Tesco 99 as this is the closest garage to me , v power is 15 miles from me . Duncan Graham mapped my car while it was running on Tesco 99 , so its prob good idea to run the car on the fuel it was mapped on

Crap! Due to everyone being a retard and absolutely not panic buying petrol Shell had run ou of v-power and diesel and only had boggo unleaded. I only put 15 quids worth in, will this destroy my engine?

Add some octane booster to the tank to bring the ron up a few points.
