Postby mikethatcher » Fri Jul 08, 2011 11:40 am

Just wondering do i need a wind-back tool to fit rear pads, ie..to push piston back? had a real pain to change on another car.

workshop manual says no, just loosen bleed nipple to push the piston in a bit if its tight.

Although, I would wait until somebody who knows what they are doing answers!!

I will wait for a second opinion........lol I had a hell of a problem with a vectra i owned, couldn't get the piston back at all, had to get a local garage in the end. All because of a £10 tool.

It's a piece of cake mate, just loosen the lid on the fluid reservoir and ease the pistons back. Just remember before you move the car - start the engine and pump the brake pedal to avoid the no brakes brown trousers moment....

can confirm the pistons simply push back no "wind-back" tool required...........

you generally find the cars requiring a wind-back tool have the h/brake mechanism thro the caliper body rather then in the drum as on the Subaru
