Fuel Gauge stuck !!!!

Heres a strange one..... Half a tank on fuel on board, parked the car for an hour,when i got back to the car needle dropped to quarter. went to garage and filled her up, 24litres to fill up but only went to just under half. Give the girl a good thrashing on way home, after 5 miles needle went to full.
