loss of power

Postby grahampesking » Thu May 26, 2011 12:23 am

I recently got my wr1 Mapped and saw a big difference , then got a Turbosmart BOV Kompact Fitted , a couple of days later I felt as though I was loosing power . It seems a bit slower through the revs , not the usual fling you back in the seat power ,

could it be the new Turbosmart dump valve ,

number 084 ,

cheers :? :?

even if it wasn't I would get rid of it anyways...complete waste of time fitting these.

good excuse to put it in the bin and put back on the original to test your theory!

I had the same problem with the Bailey BOV that came on my car. an almost total loss of boost thanks to it sticking slightly. Put standard one back on - perfect ever since

thanKs guys ,,

I took it back to the garage and they said it was the gasket that came with the new dump valve , it wasnt thick enough so they put an original sti gasket in its place ,, made a difference but iM sure its not as quick as it was before the new dump valve ,, Il ask them to change it back and see if it makes the difference

I get a ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch noise at full beans at low revs in 4th and above, just as the turbo starts to work hard... doesn't seem to affect performance but it does sound odd. I thought maybe it was the wastgate bleeding some boost off to smooth the power out as the turbo comes in. :?:

yeah its probably the wastegate regulating boost pressure...this is just a flap on an actuator arm, but it pulses rathers than opens in a smooth action, so the pulsing action would probably be your noise mate.

ideally both at the same time if you can, then you are never running with an unoptimised map.
