Top speed.

Well driving back back from a restaraunt around midnight last night I reached a section of unlight and empty motorway. My heart and right foot took over my brain and I decided to attempt the top speed. After a short wait my spedometer reached just shy of "70"mph! Being a standard car I was rather impressed! Shame I can't say the same for my tipsy girlfriend sat next to me!

Best not putting these things to print on a public forum unless you have done it on a "private runway"

I read the first couple of days of the diary but what happened prior to him losing control? Was he speeding and being dick? Unless I read it wrong, it just said he was moving slowly sideways towards an oncoming biker... I guessed he must have been hooning it but I suppose he could have burst a tyre or something and lost it?!

Lee - It is possible to self-incriminate mate. I'd take the speed out and just say you were impressed and leave it like that.... just a thought!

Tough one to read between the lines, but I think we can all draw our on conclusions.... I think this all happened in his CTR, and he drove it pretty hard... never really saw eye to eye with him........

been very close to hitting the limiter in 6th a couple of times on the section of AutoBahn north of Dusseldorf heading towards Denmark - GPS said it was 168mph and I had about 800rpm to go.

You have either got to be playing with the 155 limited BMW's, Audi's & Merc's or stick with the 'normal' people. Running at 120-140 is very dangerous as you are constantly watching ahead and behind at the same time. Kinda like being at the Ring really where one eye is needed for the looney bikers.

Knowing how much room you need to get up to that speed, and how much room you would need to stop...I would never try that on a UK road - even if it was in the small hours.

Is your name really Lee or Jim Davidson?

Haha why would my name be jimbo? Once I reached "70" ;) I slowed right down I didn't sit at that speed obviously. Advantages of knowing a road in the dark. Unless some bints driving with no lights on you won't hit anyone.

Or, you have a blow out.... or lose control? Although guilty of being a knobhead myself, I'd personally stick to the track after weighing up the downsides of killing/maiming someone else or myself..... all for a bit of fun but there is a limit

I can personally vouch for John Mc Tiddler (Dogging Expert) on this statement.

Stick to the track then end up rolling your car and your insurance being invalid :/

Personally I'd rather drive slow on a day to day basis and just appreciate the stares and smiles you receive. Oh and the random Subaru wrx driver who waves at you in admiration :D

I dont think your insurance would be valid if you got caught doing them speeds, they woyld probably say you was racing ! Why would you roll your car on track? What do you think would happen if you lost control at 160mph? On the road with lamposts, armco, and trees to hit? Your car would have been totalled along with you and your girlfriend? Dont get me wrong i like speed, but speeds like that are better on closed circuits and drag strips, any one can drive fast in a straight line but its the twisties that count!

i got my old wr1 up to 170ish, i overtook a rx7 that was doing 165 on the gps and pulled away. so good for around 170ish gearing is 178mph. All of this was of course on PRIVATE road
not tested the rb320 fully yet have managed 156 on a private road and there was a fair bit left ran out of room

At bruntingthorpe on two thirds of the track, I normally get to 135 to 140 with the standard car power levels. When you get top end it takes forever to creep the speed up :)
