AIR FILTERI'VE HEARD IF YOU PUT A NEW AIR FILTER ON I'LL NEED TO GET THE CAR REMAPPED IS THIS TRUE? THE AIR FILTER IN QUESTION IS A RAMAIR IF IT MATTERS WHICH ONE IS?
Panel filters can be added/changed without a remap. Induction kits apparently need a remap either cone or inner wing style as the cars struggle to start without a remap from what ive heard.
if its a panel dropping into the OE airbox then no worries, but as above you would change the aitflow characterisitcs with any form of induction kit so yes a map check/tweak would be required/advised

thanks for that it doesn't seem worth buyig a new filter if i've got to get it remapped cos i've heard that's quite expensive. think i'll wait till i have other bits to fit.
It becomes a restriction at around 350bhp. So yes you can get to 400bhp with one but with a better flowing system that same person would probably have 410-420bhp. Normally by that stage the owner has seen the sense of a front mount intercooler and that always necessitates an induction kit. As Alyn says if a panel filter then it doesnt need remapping but all induction kits change the airflow measurements and it is always safer to remap than suffer the consequences. I remapped a car yesterday that needed another 25% fuel to cope with induction kit changes !! - without a remap it would have destroyed the engine. Duncan : www.racedynamix.com
