isn't it something to do with stopping the refletion from car lights behind you reflecting off the mirror and back into your eyes or the driver's behind eyes?

that would be the tilt switch on the mirror itself mate...the flap is there as an extra visor, labelled 'centre visor' in the service manual.

Stops the sun shining through the gap between the rear view mirror and roof line? Or that's what I assumed it did, never used it :lol:
