oil pump problems

Postby Pitta » Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:07 pm

hi i am just woundering is there a modified part from subaru for the oil pump? as my wr1 first thing in the morning has a knock on it and then goes off straight away, been told that wrx sti's were common for the faulty oil pumps as the valve in the oil pump does not open quick enough to feed the engine on first start up, any help will be great as i want it sorted now then leav it any longer cheers :)

I would get that checked asap. I know the p1 had oil pump failure as i found out with mine but dont think there are any issues with the wr1. mine is quiet on start uo no knocks but saying that its only done 15000 miles.

cheers

Hiya Pitta.

I was having the same discussion with Central Subaru today. They've been around for some time now and come highly recc by many for rebuilds, servicing etc.
I'm having a service next week and spending that bit extra to have a new oil pump fitted whilst they're changing the cam belt. Incidently, the std one should be fine for 400 bhp so maybe there's another issue here. There is an 11mm or even a 12mm Cosworth one available for about £300 but I bet you don't need it.

I STRONGLY recc you ring Darren Shein (the boss) for a general chat to discus this. Mention Mick and Devious......... mate of his !

you shouldn't have any noise from the engine on start-up??

needs checked asap to prevent further potential damage IMO, but the oil pump is not normally suspect at your age of car........
quite possible and more likely that the t/belt tensioner is not holding its pressure properly giving you a noise??
